Thanks for your efforts @NOTKTS ! I'm not going to sell my 95 or 97 and am waiting to see what if anything changes for them. Again, I'm not holding my breath!
I am not going to sell my CR97 either. I am still using it some. Maybe Whistler will surprise us all with a firmware update before the end of the year. I have pretty much gotten use to the K/Ka mix up.

I have been driving around and keeping xk at 0. It seems to be keeping BSMs from being reported as ka's. I am also keeping TFSR off and ka at 1 or 2. Interesting. It is noisy on xk0 but I may have had one BSM as a ka.

Just a follow up....I think I am done with my experiment on the '97. On my unit with XK at 0, Ka at 1, TFSR off, FDSR off and Ka Max off, I hardly ever get a bsm lighting up as a Ka mis-id. It's noisy this way but in City mode it's tolerable. I also notice that it will stay alerting to fluctuating K signals for what seems like miles in bsm traffic. There must be something going on in the unit with respect to the K delay filters causing the K/Ka confusion. My CR97 is going in the drawer for a bit and I will use one of my other CM toys for a change, but this unit does seem to be massively improved with respect to sensitivity. Now if they can release an update so that I can run TFSR and not get ka/k mixups this would be great. I would also like to thank everyone on this thread for all the helpful info.

if you increase the KA filter, you will take a hit on that those frequencies, no if's and's or but's. They are aware of it, they might try to blow smoke up your tail pipe and give you band aids, but nothing will resolves the issue until they come out with a different platform. nothing more will come of the cr97 at this point.

Mike and I have gone rounds over it, and that's what it boils down to.

That's a damn shame, but I'm not surprised. Whistler is not far from having a top notch detector. I can't believe that Mike can't come up with a firmware update that will solve this silly @ss problem after all of the bitching we have done!

I think if Mike B had a chance to maybe work with any of our Rd forum testers he is ABLE to have a good budget detector that can hang with the BIG BOYS just saying

That's what makes me crazy about all this! My CR95 and 97 are able to fight it out with my very best detectors on range and Q/T and I/O shots, are killers at picking up laser but can't tell a K band BSM from Ka band! How stupid is that?

I think that K/Ka mix up is here to stay (unfortunately). @Bossdad71 has the inside scoop from Mike B, and I think “it is what it is” until Whistler comes out with an updated model to the replace the CR95/CR97 platform.

Since I run Ka MaxID, I actually have accepted the K/Ka mixup as helpful in identifying BSM falses since the CR95/97 platform doesn’t have a K-band frequency display. On the other hand, I bump up the Ka filter to help with BSM false alarms when I run the CR97 with TFSR off which I don’t like to do. I still have been running my CR97 quite a bit lately alternating between TFSR on, XK filter and Ka filters both at 1, and TFSR off with X/K filter at 3 and Ka filter at 2. I think those are my preferred settings for now. I think my CR97 is probably going to be used less in the immediate future as I will probably use my R3 more with the new firmware 1.50 update and divide my “time” primarily between my R3 and my Max360c.

I have been running my CR97 in my spare winter beater car. I run Max IIs on my primary cars. My CR 97 is officially a Honda CRV detector. Ka band 33.8 everytime with them, but the laser sensitivity is incredible. Picks up every VPR gun used by the CT state police. My max IIs on the other hand miss laser shots all the time. Not that laser detections will save your reliably, but there have been times where I was about to accelerate faster and then my laser detector went off I slowed down and kept me from getting a ticket. I wish I could combine the BSM filtering of my Max II with the laser sensitivity of my CR 97.

Yes. Very true on laser. I don't receive laser falses. If the 97 laser alerts there is a leo shooting nearby. Its funny with FDSR on, TFSR on and filters near 1 or 0, I feel safe at +10 PSL. The 97 is reporting literally every BSM and sometimes its just non stop displaying stuff.

I meant TFSR off.

I don’t run FDSR/r on anymore because my CR97 was alerting nonstop that I just ignored it. I haven’t had any laser encounters with my CR97, but I do experience laser false alarms. Not frequent laser false alarms, but enough to notice. Maybe every other time I use it. I just did a factory reset on my CR97 today. My R3 virtually never falses to laser, and my Max 360c rarely falsed to laser up until this last firmware update, and now my Max360c falses just about every time I use it at least once under Escort’s firmware 1.9.

The county where I live and the large city next to me uses quite a bit of laser, but it has been over 3 years since I have been targeted by laser (fortunately), but I wouldn’t mind a laser hit (as long as I am at the PSL) to very whatever detector that I am using at the time will alert to it....lol. The last laser hit I had was with my V1, and I picked up some “scatter” at night, and the car in front of me got the ticket.

That's some pretty cool laser sensitivity, even if it won't do much to save you. What guns have you been seeing? I encountered a Truspeed S (on I-84 in Waterbury) and a Truspeed LR (on SR-72 in Bristol) today, and neither got an alert from my R3. Curious if you're seeing other guns, because I almost exclusively see Truspeeds when I am traversing the state.

Here is what is interesting with the CR97 that was experienced today during @Kennyc56 and I did with K band with a near perpendicular setup. Of the Whistlers, I brought out and dusted off my XTR690 and the CR97. Did some runs with both, and the CR97 was dead quiet on 24.161GHz. Kenny and I scratched our heads thinking maybe to power to the system was done. Apparently not, after we did powered cycle to the unit. When originally powered, no other detector was on nor near the source for this to occur. Throwing that out there was to another issue with CR97 that FW might need to address.

CT state police seem to use exclusively Truspeeds. My buddy who is a trooper uses TSS, I have seen a 50:50 ratios for TSS vs Truspeed LR.

I am never buying a another whistler again they have yet to fix the confusion
As much as I love Whistler, I can't blame you a damn bit! There's no reason in hell that they can't fix this problem if it really mattered to them!

I had a CR97 for over 6 months, and I was very patient, but at the end I gave up on it, as the vendor would not do anything to improve this unit.
I now own a R7 and very pleased with it.

Good to hear your happy with your R7. The Whistler section of the RDF has been pretty quiet lately. I know you aren’t the only one to give up on the CR95/CR97 series. I don’t think Whistler is likely to push down any significant improvements. Surely Whistler had to know of the “issues” when they introduced the CR95/97, but they released it anyway. I used my CR97 last night, but I have been using my R3 a lot more since Uniden introduced the K-block notch filter to the R3.

I really wanted to like the CR97. We all really tried!!! The mixup and other issues started to add up to make this a difficult unit to rely on. To reduce the k/ka mixups I ran the xk filter at 0, TFSR off but FDSR on. It literally is never silent this way. Ka is big here and I live in BSM hell so it's basically not usable for me. It's resting comfortably in my drawer for now & I feel like I am out the purchace price. On the plus side, I learned alot about CM's and the value of testing.
