Always take mine down. With the down turn in the economy theft is huge. Not to long ago they were prying open trunks, talk about expensive fixes. No loud music, avoid bass in parking lots, windshield gadgets taken down and hidden. Removable toys go in the house with me at night if the vehicle is parked outside.
The theft of a detector or deck hurts, but the damage thieves do is just the worst. They have pried door handles off and tried doing the same to the door, punched holes into fuel tanks for gas, and broke windows. A while in a work truck I left doors unlocked to let them look around because it resulted in broken windows. I live in a decent neighbourhood as well.
1. It's not as expensive in loss, if broken, stolen or lost.
2. Second hand is probably cheaper because it's possibility been stolen anyway haha (or just had some decent use in its lifetime) !
Kind of a vicious circle that has its pro's and cons depending which end you're on.
I've always wondered this about lidar guns actually.
Mine has a serial on it, but I'm not game enough to find out if it's been a legit government auction, or fallen off the back of a patrol car, for fear of having it taken from me.
Bit cautious to answer to laser tech. What might happen if someone sends a gun in for calibration and they see the serial? Reckon they keep a record, or have a kind of register?
Not sure if it's too much of a thing now or mentioned before but, back before G maps / \/\/aze etc... everyone was using the windshield mount GPS units and people would break in even if they saw the suction cup marks on the windshield so, I always take my detector down and wipe the suction cup marks off if I'm going to be away from my car for 15min. or more. in the glove box.
Also, the Baofeng radios are pretty cool to play around with and very popular in big paintball games. Definitely get the PC connection programming cable and use the proper drivers for that specific cable. It will save you light years of time as the Baofeng isn't so user friendly and easy to forget how to do what you need to do with the keypad if you don't use it frequently.
