There are quite a few people on this forum that seem to be very knowledgeable about which guns / radar units are being used, but I haven't been able to dig up any information on whether or not these guns are being identified based on the frequency, or if the users identifying them simply know what the police in that area use. If it is actually possible to - even with limited accuracy - identify the radar gun by the frequency, I'd love to have a list.

I did spend a decent amount of time searching, but unless I am searching for the wrong terms, the only thing I am pulling up is discussions on whether or not arrows are important on detectors.

You can tell the manufacturer by Ka frequency, eg. MPH guns are 33.8 GHz, Stalker are 34.7, and Kustom Signals and Decatur are 35.5. If a department is known to run Stalker 34.7 guns and suddenly adds K band, you can assume they bought some Stalker Patrols. Guns can also be identified by peeking in parked cruisers or checking department purchasing records.

33.8 GHZ is an MPH brand gun
34.7 is Stalker brand guns
35.5 is Decatur or Kustom guns.

This is fantastic! I am going to start a spreadsheet to keep track of this information.

Thank you! (And if anyone has any more info, keep it coming!)

Edit: And yes, arrows are important :D
That actually made me laugh out loud. And posts don't usually elicit that reaction from me. :cawg:

The live version of the RDFGS is here: RDFGS v1 Re-Integrated... It is member editable and has been updated since that spreadsheet as some folks have been adding stuff recently.

I found that a while ago, but I don't have edit access. I don't post enough.

That's probably how I will end up doing it... I'll just share the info I have and let someone else add it.

I try to post more, but every time I am about to hit post on something, I start analyzing what I am asking or trying to provide for information, decide that someone somewhere probably already made a post about it, then decide that rather than being "that guy", I just won't post. So here I am 3 years after joining the forum, with a post count of 9.

So there are a couple of interesting encounters I have had where police are running both K and KA band. Is there a single system which does that, or are they just running two guns?

Example - Windsor County Sheriffs Department
KA Band - 35.479, 35.493, 35.474, 35.487 (All KA8)
K Band - 24.155

I have also had encounters where the same cruiser will tag me on multiple channels. I haven't seen a gun wander 552mhz yet, other than these.

Example - Woodstock Village Police Department
KA Band - 34.331 (KA4)
KA Band - 33.779 (KA2)

I dont think the same cop would be running 2 guns. Prob 2 separate cars - 33.8 could be a false

Woodstock village is a pretty small town, so it's not real common for them to have 2 police out at the same time, and if they do, they are on opposite sides of the town. There was definitely only one radar source when I got tagged on ka4 and ka2.

The K/KA with Windsor county seems to be more passive / Active. When they are moving around, or detailed to something like construction zones, it's K band, but when they are set up on a speed trap (that's a joke. They only have 2 places they sit in my hometown ), they run KA band. My first thought was trunk mount vs handheld, but they are never using handheld guns.

Don’t worry about being “that guy.” Post often, and have fun! It becomes easier the more you post and the more good reactions you get to those posts will also make you feel more comfortable posting. Of course all reactions may not be positive but it’s a public forum with a lot of different opinions and personalities. The staff will take care of anything that gets out of hand. The more time you spend on the forum, you’ll almost develop a sort of database in your head of what’s been posted and what hasn’t. If you aren’t sure, do a quick search and see if any results of what you’re trying to post has already been said and then link that post or thread to your thread or post. But seriously, don’t sweat it. There is a ton of information here, you will not memorize EVERYTHING, to know whether or not it has already been posted, so duplicates will happen. You got this!

Don’t mean to derail the thread, just trying to give a fellow member some encouragement!
