Mod note: Edited to clean up copy paste error. All original content still there.

Then we might not see a V1 for 6 months
or longer
Mike must be in meetings with lawyers all day chewing up legal fees
The longer it takes the more expensive the V1 will be when/if it returns

There's no reason that it can't be both.
Part shortage (as I've seen in my own industry first hand) can be the reason that they ran out of complete units to sell in early April.

Patents could be limiting the deployment of plan B in a quick manner.

Could be but, VR knows they sell xxx per month for the past few years and I see it as he built up his inventory to hold them over and then focused on the next detector. Something happened with the new unit launch but we will never know what was the issue. MV is an engineer who wants all his ducks in a row not scattered all over the pond. Let's just kick back and hope he has 1 last game changer in him before retirement...

How much would you pay for a new model mustang if you had no clue what it would look like or what the performance would be.. The same goes here. I'm guilty of taking it off topic for sure but this is how it goes at times. For what it worth I see the new unit costing $450 and I am willing to do that if improvements are made in range and filtering. VR gets all the money so 450 direct is like 600 if it went to Best buy etc..

If he makes improvements, I doubt it will be $450. Probably more like $500.

I sell V1 in China. I don't think V1 is due to the shortage of spare parts. Since January, the batch of V1 has been abnormal. Previous production batches 1342,1343, each batch interval is about 2 weeks, from January 1335,1336,1338,1339,1340 have, I anticipate that they are clearing inventory, parts shortage will not last for six months.
I think the decline in V1 sales has led to the shutdown of production, and their sales have not been able to sustain the company's daily expenses.

Just spoke to the Valentine Research telephone lady. She says, "Still hoping for late July or August." She also said that the price would be going up to, "$400 something, the final price isn't known yet."

WAIT AND SEE!
Hope is not a strategy. !!!

It’s getting to be a torture

What do u mean give a timeline. Clearly the lady answering the phone has given a “timeline” even though it never comes to fruition. But a timeline has always been giving. And latest has come down to “hoping” vs a real strategy in place.

For those of you in the EE industry, is it common to have a parts supplier continually slip on delivery dates?

I think It goes beyond a normal hiccup in the supply chain but all is forgotten if the unit delivers the goods.. Good things come to those who wait and wait and wait :)

Putting it all in perspective:
There has been a lot of talk about this shipping delay and waiting. Assuming that the V1 hasn't changed in some desirable way yet but will be essentially the same unit that they ran out of; (The subject of this thread)
How many RDF people actually need to upgrade to the 3.8952 version? (3.894, 2.8945 are equivalents that could not be upgraded to 3.8952)

I'm guessing around 5 people are behind the current 3 versions. If so, that's 5 people that really are concerned about this and the rest of us are mildly interested to see what happens.

Of course, if the new unit comes out with anything higher than 3.8952, all heck might break loose. :) But that's not what this thread is about.
