So i think i recall vortex mentioning the head engineer for unidens RD division was recently hired on at radenso. I have no idea when this happened but in your guys opinion, will it affect unidens line as a whole? I dont know for certain but it seems like the r7 has a larger than acceptable amount of bugs for the given msrp folks are shelling out. I'm a huge fan of uniden RD down to the design etc, But radenso seems legit also and price is a bit under that of uniden even. But then again i might have just heard incorrectly. Feel free to elaborate!

Not the head engineer. The director of marketing and product development. All the engineers at Attowave (not Uniden) who built and developed the R series are still there which is why we continue to see updates. The new guy at Uniden who has taken over the lead is now the guy keeping track of updates, deciding what gets done, and so on. Are things different now? Yes, but I’m finding now that some of those specifics aren’t really worth getting into publicly. They lead to more confusion and speculation which is the opposite of what I was trying to accomplish. That’s been a big surprise to me, but now that I’ve learned that, I don’t plan on sharing details like this in the future. The fact is, people change jobs and that is normal.

So yes Uniden’s development is continuing and yes things will be different. How will they be different? That’s hard to tell for sure and so instead of trying to gaze into a crystal ball, ultimately we may just be better off watching and seeing what actually winds up unfolding.

Things change at companies all the time. Good people make things happen at companies, and some people are VERY VERY difficult to replace. From time to time one person has a large enough impact to change the company but we are talking founder/owner/one man marching bands.

Here is how it was explained to me: (you can try it if you don't believe me)
Take a glass of water; this represents a company.
Set your glass of water on a solid flat surface and just look at it. Notice it is calm, clear. Safe.
Put your finger in there and hold still. Look how exciting it is at first. Splashing, ripples.
Eventually it calms down and now you are a part of that calm glass of water (company). Everything is back to normal, except now you are there.
Now take your finger back out. Notice the ripples?
Give it a minute...
You'll notice that glass of water is fine again, even without you.

That is not to say there aren't serious superstars that make things happen. Not what I am driving at. But irreplaceable? Very rarely. Everyone is going to be fine. These are very exciting times in the CM industry.

And it is unfortunate that announcements being made by Radenso, Vortex, Uniden are being blasted so hard. I, for one, enjoyed having some insight.

I just read some pretty nasty stuff about a company that will never see my business. Are they going to lose sleep over my finger coming out of the glass? I wouldn't bet on it.

I do not believe this to be true. I could be wrong, but I believe there is only room for one premium radar detector company in the marketplace due to modern market forces. It's the internet effect and the massive volatility of revenue that it creates. Check back on this post in five years and feel free to make fun of me if I am wrong haha.

I agree. However, I put a price level defining this. >$1100 for portable RD, only one will prevail. Nothing scientific. Looking at history (adjusted for inflation) and applying Jon theory. Currently the < $600 market I guess up to three-five players.

Not sure what the built in (remote) market is. Seems like for years there has been 4-5 players in this smaller volume more expensive per system market.

The R7 was already a pretty big stretch, along with the other top shelf units from Escort. Rather than only sell 100 units for $1,000, I would think there would be more to be had by selling 500 units for $500. Greater presence, bigger bottomline.

The Essential phone was overpriced when it hit the stores, did OK (really poorly), then after things went south the price dropped to around $300 and everyone and their brother picked one up. They could have probably skipped the almost going out of business part and been better off in the long term. Now they are talking about a second device again.

I'm sure execs from all of the other companies beg to differ. That's why we're us and they're them, and why everyone's stuck with crappy radar detectors today. It's called mutually assured mediocrity.

Speaking about the detectors you can't go wrong with either Uniden or Radenso. It really boils down to features that you want.

IMO Radenso has already taken the lead with the BSM filtering capabilities. As consumers it is a great market for us now with so many top option detectors, it all depends on your needs.

Being candid if I hadn't won my ProM I would still be inclined to purchase one and feel good about it. Not that Uniden doesn't provide features I want but that I see Radenso's filtering to be at the top. IMO a companies ability to filter AND deliver range will reign supreme in the years to come.

As far as bugs any great product was born somewhere. If we are always waiting for perfection we will never buy anything.

So then best of both worlds goes to the winner-Escort 360c- great features , better than avg range , and very good filtering!

For anyone reading between the lines, there appears to be much more to this statement than meets the eye

Actually it was the other statement (quoted above) that made some pretty exciting implications, to me. First statement seemed more like a little bit of business (smack) talk for "look out [competition]"

Seriously looking forward to it.. just hope it doesn't cost as much as an F-22. These CM are an investment for some of us. If the investment outweighs the return, it will fail to be a reasonable expenditure.

But doesn't all the 360 variants have an issue with locking up without notice?

If you watched the video Jon did with Vortex, and seen the amount of R&D invested in showing how BSM looks, that in itself might be a glimpse of what might be coming.

I’ve never seen it done at that level, then showing us.

Pretty excited to see what else might be released.

Product management is all about knowing where to spend capital (human and money) in order to put a product to market that will reap the best bottom line benefit to the company. Looking at what he did, he took saw the best of Escort and Radenso and created a true competitor. So what will he do at Radenso? Maybe add arrows, change the plug to be more standard with rj11 and guess what? You might have a better R7. But it takes more than the one who sets the product direction. Someone has to engineer it and keep it going.

Let's see what happens over time. I don't think Uniden is just going to fold because of this change. They already know the framework that brings some success with CM market.

Exciting times for all.

And Vortex - all good on reporting it. That inside stuff is exactly what we need! People will always overreact to any news, no matter how big or small
