Being VERY hesitant & skeptical about the R7 I didn't want to stroke BRD with a 50/50 probable return so I went with Walmart for the ease of returning it to a local store.
Ordered on line.
I am very happy with my R3 but have experienced situations where Arrows would have been great. So..........

My Escort Hard Wire Smart Cord with the Black and Yellow wires swapped at the connector works the same as it did with the R3. I have a mute/mute memory/dimmer control. The alert light is on all the time but I use a permanent marker to dim it.

Ser 9A008***
FW 121.122.111

Before updating to FW124 I took a dB reading of Ka Band Alert Sound #3 on setting 6 and got 84dB.
After flashing FW124 it reads 91dB on setting 8. The perceived increase is satisfactory.

Impressions out of the box?
A stealth matte black box that is very light not screaming to be expensive as it is. I do not dislike it.
The buttons? C'mon Uniden, no brail, ridges, bumps? (no matter, once setup I only use the button on the hard wire cord. If I have a passenger I may turn the volume down)
The display size is a nice change but I run Dark in the day and off at night to avoid advertising myself as an available rabbit, letting rabbits pass me into the bears jaws, and if a LEO somehow sees it he has made up his mind he will not be issuing a courtesy warning or trimming down the spread.

We will see what kind of performance 2¢ I give on her in the coming weeks.

Thanks, As stated I'll most likely rarely use them anyway, but nice to know.

Well, this Copy may not be doing so good.

GPS errors come and go at random and not clear until is powered down for a while. Turning it off & on or unplugging for a minute doesn't help, nor does riding around for a bit. Its mounted in the same place as my R3 which does fine. It also runs pretty hot to the touch which may be normal.
The error is 50/50 random. It will lock in just like my R3 in my garage or anywhere. But its a dice roll no matter where parked if you shut off the car and come back it may or may not lock giving the error alert. I did a good bit of driving hoping it would correct its self but no dice. I have to let it sit without power for a while.

Its on a permanent mount to non-metallic tint strip with most of it exposed to the sky. My R3 never gives me an issue practically instantly locking in in the same exact place and power supply.

I took it to a sports facility with several baseball diamonds that use Ka radar for monitoring pitching. Today only one diamond was operating while I was there.
I parked behind the outfield fence and compared the sensitivity between the R7 and R3 running one at a time from the same mounting tab. They both registered the same 3 bars and same frequency numbers. The gun must be tuned pretty good because it reads 34.700.
Yes I know I may have had the pitcher between me and the gun along with some fence but its a pretty convenient scenario for a basic function testing.

Between me and the gun is a pitcher, fence, and a road with me sitting in the parking lot across the road. The parking lot was empty allowing me to do some very slow circle repositioning of the car to test the arrows but before I could observe it making a single arrow swap I got the GPS error and it was stubborn to clear.

I put the R3 back on and did the same circular motion just for the heck of it and GPS didn't error. I didn't think it was necessary but did it just in case.

For $600.00 I'm not going to do battle with this copy. She is going back and I'll continue to enjoy my R3 for a while longer. I have a sibling that was going to inherit the R3 and she is sulking now. She was with me.
I don't like spending cash on something needing repairs. Just my bad luck I guess. I'll wait until the funds return to my card and get another from a different source.

I would also be concerned if I was getting consistent GPS errors. Doesn't happen with mine.

Update, I decided to re-flash the FW124 and cannot make it toss a GPS error. Before all I had to do was power on in my garage. Acquisition is instant like.
I'll update more in time, Walmart says 90 day return policy. No LEO encounter yet.

I liked the R7 when I had it. But not having a dark mode and a display somewhere else was a deal breaker for me.

The concealed display has always been a huge deal for me, especially when I was driving a commercial vehicle - then I absolutely needed visible stealth (I was willing to take my chances with the Spectre). I am not of the disposition to poke the bear nor advertise to the world that I am running a detector.

I'm really surprised no one else has jumped on that (display without an app), with everything else that they are copying the V1 on...

I really think Escort missed the mark with its SmartRadar. Had they given it a M3 horn, it would have taken off. I'm surprised that no other manufacturer has since come out with a windshield mounted unit with no display on the unit itself.

Me either, with the screen mounted where you want it. Could bluetooth it even. Seems pretty easy to do without much of a cost either as the components have come way down in price. It's a no brainer. I've been thinking this since I bought got back to using detectors a couple of years ago. Have an antenna on the front windshield and another on the back.

I'm fortunate to like running mine in Dark mode by day, and Off mode by night mainly relying on audio. And I have to say with the R7 mounted to the left of my RVM its LOUD at full volume. So music need not be handicapped.
Of course if a remote display develops in my budget perhaps I would have it.

I took my R7 online paper work to the Walmart returns department today to confirm the return period being 90 days and it is. Nice! They told me items with user writable memory like phones are 14 day.

21 Days later, I returned it to Walmart. The arrow performance lacks. Never seen a side arrow alert.
Running it with display off arrow direction voice announce is not reliable.
Range is good but the arrow performance still needs work from my experience. I ran it everyday for 21 days and never got a side arrow.

It just doesn't make me feel as good about spending 600 as the R3 made me feel about 400.
