Same happened to me. Car Totaled Idiot literally had over 3 seconds to see me and either swerve or stop, but didn't even begin slowing down until he was maybe 1 second away.

The better half and I were sitting at a Red Light. I see an F-250 coming up on us fast so I look up thinking the light has changed. Nope still Red. Grab her and and tell her we are going to be hit. Loud screeching noise and the guy passes us on the right in the ditch. The moron is STILL holding his phone while trying to drive down the ditch!

At the rate he was going if he had hit us, I am just about sure it would have caused me to push the vehicle in front of me at the light into traffic at the intersection. The idiot managed to get slowed down enough and under enough control to come out of the ditch turning further right into the side and front yard of the property on the corner without bouncing uncontrolled into traffic on busy GA20.

Wonder if it was a brown stain moment for him but more importantly wondering if the idiot is still texting and driving?

Running waze in the city is safe
Texting on the highway is safe with an 8 second cushion
Safe to talk on speaker
When you start trying to hold it to your ear in city or text you'll eventually hit something

Funny you would say that. When I did talk on my phone long before hands-free and I had to make a complicated turn, I would tell the person I was speaking with to hold on, set my phone down, make my turn, then if it was safe I would continue my call. Or I would tell them I would call them back when I could talk.

I see people weekly, even after the law, trying to make tight right had turns into traffic with limited sight distance while talking on the phone with the phone up to their left ear making it even harder to see oncoming traffic. OK if your car doesn't have built-in BT and you can't afford to update your audio head unit, buy the $14.95 hands-free BT from Walmart or Amazon for crying out loud.

About a month after the law went into effect here in GA, I saw a Maryland drive get pulled over by GHP that was talking away on his cell phone. We were both only 5 over so it almost had to be because of the cell phone. Maryland has had the No Touch law for 4 years now (three years at the time), he knew better and should have already had a work around by now!

Just two days ago on I95 in CT a 3 ton Navigator was drifting in and out of her lane, into mine, shoulder, etc. I passed her on the inside and had a look and I saw a soccer mom type texting, eyes down (!) all the while she was "teaching" her maybe 10 year old passenger to do the same thing some day. All at about 70mph. Way to risk it all for you and your daughter. I was so angry, I wish I could have done a citizen's arrest.

If I ever see someone behind me approaching too fast, I'm going to use the horn. It just might make the person pay attention, and even if he/she can't stop, probably he/she will be able to swerve and at least miss my car. And now, whenever I come across stopped traffic where there should not be stopped traffic, I immediately put on my emergency flashers.

I've had to do that before. Luckily, the person heard the horn and snapped out of it.
