Welcome to the Party Pal!

Georgia is coming up on a year since it passed here. I still text and drive, but Siri is doing all the typing and reading though Apple Car Play with text to voice on received messages and voice to text on sent messages. Even with the big 6 month media and road sign campaign prior to the law going into affect, I still see people 18 months later driving with a cellular phone up to their ear while doing 70 on the Interstate or slowing down to 50 because they are texting!

All for it. If I were a LEO, I would only ride around popping idiots on their phone. I don’t think I drive a single day that I don’t see people texting and driving.

Now, they need to really go after people if they pass it.

I love it. Oregon passed this last year and I STILL see dozens of 'em every day.
A co-worker got pinched a few months back, and I think it was 165 bucks.
Did I mention that I love it? I love it. Great revenue producer, like all tickets,
and it can't affect me negatively, since I never text and drive, and it CAN affect me
positively, since it might keep a couple of folks off their friggin' phones.

I think part b) 1) could use some rewording. I don't think it is unsafe to hold a phone in one hand while talking via speaker phone. There are times where I will talk on the phone while holding both the steering wheel and the phone together in a single hand. But I do agree that this should be a law. My wife and I were just rear-ended over a month ago from a guy on his cell phone. Her back is still messed up and I just got my car back from the shop. It was a pain in the a$$ going through all that.

I don’t know man, I see people holding a phone and the morons don’t know they are in the world. I don’t really understand why it’s so hard to talk, hold the phone and drive. But, people just can’t do it.

Its like it never happened here in GA. They would have to make it a 3 point court apperance moving violation to get any kind of reaction.

I have a friend who just went cold turkey from drive texting and says he didn't realize how much work or effort it took to do it until he stopped.

That's true. Tbh if it wasn't a PITA to use my radio's Bluetooth, I'd be using it. Maybe I need a trucking headset :p

He says it's just more work to do. His drives are more relaxed now.
His driving (no pun) factor is he was in a texting session with a friend who was driving and involved in an accident which was their fault and resulted in injuries.
If one has to be texting behind the wheel there is something wrong.

So are there any provisions for Ham Radio or other Radio operators to be exempt from this. I can see now cops stopping a Ham like myself and giving some bullshit ticket when I was on a legal HT and not on a cell phone.

I seriously do not like talking on the phone when I drive - hands free or not. After a call I usually dont recall well the previous mile(s) I've driven and wonder how I did it. Motor memory I guess.

I'm exactly the same way. I don't want to do anything but drive. It has been handy during testing but even having a hands free conversation is very distracting.

Forget about it. Law or no law we are stuck with it, folks sitting at a green light, while texting, swerving into your lane while texting, driving into cars, pedestrians, cyclists, while texting. Walking into traffic while texting. Hogging the left lane while texting, accelerating while waiting for the reply and letting off when reading or composing.
All of the above happens enough for folks that just screw up that don't own a phone. Sigh...

Sitting at green lights texting drives me crazy about 1/3 cars do it and if you honk they get in all their emotions honk back and start road raging shit. Get a newer car with voice commands if you are that busy.

Driving requires a certain amount of skill and concentration. When someone starts texting and driving, that concentration disappears.

Texting/Talking on the cellphone while driving is causing a lot of accidents, not just in NC. It is literally an epidemic.
