Ok.. if I remember correctly, isn't it this month people were speculating that Uniden would update the firmware to unlock the auto lockouts?

Assuming my memory is decent, anyone heard anything?

BTW, I know auto lockouts are important to many, but for me, it doesn't matter. I'm more interested in better BSM filtering and MRCD/T detections... I wish I knew what the current beta 124.124.111 fixed or added...

Oh no! Not again! Now you've gone and done it. Just wait a few minutes and the usual suspects will be by to tell you how many of us were complete crybabies when the R3 FW was teased and then we lost our ever-loving minds when it took over four months to come out because they added so many new features in one update. Now the testers and Uniden have vowed to never tell anyone anything in advance ever again. This question comes up every week or so. Just be patient. It'll show up here when it's ready. NOT BEFORE

I think we are just getting addicted to updates, detector is fine, it will be out when it is ready.

hell coming from a V1 where the only firmware updates were once every 5 years and you had to pay for it I am ok ;)

You must not be using K band?
You might be surprised how much protection running an R7 in City or Adv K=30% still gives you on K-band.

I've been running mine @50% because at the setting on my R3 (fw 1.48), it leaves brown streaks in my pants at times... You're starting to convince me ... since I saw your test from the other day ... to move my R7 to 30% to help with the BSM. My only issue with doing so is the fw version... You're on 124.124, which might behave a lot different than what we the public are using...

I'm kind of stuck.. should I say at 50% or move to 30%?

I'd try 30% and slow down a bit until you are comfortable that it's enough protection for you. Uniden hasn't done anything to improve K-band range in the beta fw that I'm aware of, so your results should be similar.

One of the issues those that deal with legit K band threats are waiting for is this one from our issues list:
  • If the primary signal is locked out (Grayed out) and of a stronger signal, the next unlocked signal in priority should show on the main display (Currently it shows on the All Threat Display and is therefore muted – Legit K band signals can be missed by this).
This is a HUGE deal for those with K band threats. Currently a legitimate threat can be masked by a locked out stronger signal.

I've been able to comfortable run City on my R7 here in NH where some towns I pass through still run K. I wasn't even able to use Advanced mode below 60% on my R3 without having code brown moments. Major increase in K sensitivity on the R7. But with City I'm getting best of both worlds, still good range and awesome filtering. I may switch over to Advanced at 30% just to be cautious but its really not even needed IMO.

Thanks for the info.. .. My R3 is the reason I'm reluctant to go below 50% with my R7..

I run city mode most of the time unless I am out on a rural road then I switch to advanced 30%.

in City mode I am still able to detect those K band signs at least half a mile away .

I would only run it higher if I lived in a state where troopers use instant on low power K bands , but K band in my state is only used by local cops and they do not have the money or the interest to get low power K band guns

You should either take @Brainstorm69 advice and run 30% and just drive slow for a while.. Or start at like 60% and run it for a few days to a week, see how it goes, then drop down 10% each week until comfortable. I'm pretty sure you will find that 30% is enough sensitivity but everyone's environment is different. If you find that 30% is still giving great range, then try City. Good Luck and share your results!

I tried 30% and it got quiet.. It wasn't during rush hour, but I made a 60 mile trip and I only had 4 BSM PTs.

The 1st 15 miles were so quiet, I was coming up on a Jeep and I could see his BSM light in the mirror.. I thought my R7 was broken because it didn't make a peep. It's just crazy quiet... And I say this because those 4 PTs I did get, I had to be pretty dang close. ANd out of those 4, 2 were in the NOTCH, so at 30%, they're still able to punch through.. Still, it wasn't beep me to death.. it was quick and over... It seemed like I had to be in just the right spot for them to punch through...

Now, I just need to see legit LEO K band to see what kind of distance I'm getting...... Brown streaks in the pants sux! But at 30%... wow, is it quiet.

Find a k band radar sign to give you an idea, or buy a 50 dollar bushnell sports radar and test, much cheaper than a ticket and they are fun toys

This is with the latest fw? What exact frequency(ies)? I still haven't seen a PT with the latest fw.

Has Uniden ever actually said the R7 will have auto learn capabilities with a future firmware update? I recall only hearing it from third parties and never directly documentated by Uniden.

I still remember the days where when you bought a radar detector, that's all you got was a radar detector... No updates.. ever. Unless, you bought the new and improved model ;)

It sure is! 14th to be exact!
