I have been looking to buy a laser tester to temporarily test out my TMG 3 head install until I can get together with @drtoddw to throughly test out my install. Today I came across this video on YouTube and upon trying to translate his British accent im pretty sure he is saying that these little hand held testers will ruin your jammer heads.

They won't do anything to your jammers. I've shot each head probably 50 times with the AL one

The AL one and the TMG one will likely not hurt anything as they are pulsing the laser signal to fake a gun. The cheapy one he's using is a PoS. It's just turning the diode on as if it's an led flashlight. It's putting out a constant beam no matter the settings. If it does that, by what I can understand is that it will open the transistor fully and allow 12v to pass through it to the control circuit that tells the computer what's happening. This is an issue because it can potentially pass dangerous amounts of current to the CPU and fry it. However, I'm not sure that's correct as with the TMG system there's no coupling between the CPU and the heads directly, it's all indirect control. You may fry the analog to digital converter though.

I have been on this forum for a few years and have never heard of anybody ruining their system from using one of these hand held testers, I mean hell why would TMG, ALP sell them if it was going to hurt them? But it sounds like what he says in the video is there is some fine print on these manufacturers websites that warn of this? I haven't researched it but maybe someone like @Jag42 can chime in on this. If it's not going to do any harm I need to purchase one.

as an FYI, That guy in the video is a known scammer. he makes his own "jammer" in his garage and sells it. It doesn't do anything useful... (we tested one on here, it was fake and things were put together with hot glue... his only means of selling it is by spreading misinformation about how real jammers work and lies such as this to try to get you to buy his products. He's been banned off here before a few times. I have seen a few of his videos (under a ton of different names on youtube as his account get banned, or enough downvotes have accumulated such that it hurts his "business") and have yet to see anything accurate in them. All the testers do is send a pulsed IR light source out at the same pulse rate as a laser gun, the jammer will see it and start firing back. it's not going to overload anything or cause damage... i mean I suppose if you left it transmitting and had the jammers firing back non stop for weeks on end then it might burn out something... but under normal usage its no different that the system doing its job against lidar in the real world. a tester that doesn't fire at the right pulse rate wont trigger the jammer as they will filter out the signal as the jammers are only looking for very specific pulse rates and patterns.

EDIT: I found the thread... this is from the same guy (laser Dave, laserjammersuk, etc) M60 any good?

Yeah, he's peddling nonsense. He has his own "laser jamming system" that does nothing. I think some people here, or on another forum, have ordered them and they are worthless.
He likes to make some bogus claims against ALP... It's just a cheap laser diode, it'll burn out, etc I wouldn't take anything he says as truth.
