So I just found out about this heatsink that some people have been experimenting with. It slides right onto the DR900S and it looks like it helps alleviate the overheating issues.

They're heatsinks specifically designed for 540 size motors for RC cars and there's lots of different models out there, but it turns out they fit onto the BV's body as well. Anyone interested in trying one out?

I use one. It seems to help. It certainly gets hot. Jordan at blackbox my car told me about it. That’s the exact one I use. It fits perfectly.

I am the OP of the thread in the link above. Let me know if you guys have any questions

Highest temp I tested it with so far in direct sunlight with the windows fully closed is 113F/45c and the cam kept working without issues

Please note that the double heat sinks I mentioned in my thread are wider and longer, so they might give different results than other models

At first the heat sink helped a little but for me it was that one major firmware update that did the trick. Either way we have an awesome dash cam now and I love it.

Would you guys mind posting / sending me a few photos of your setup? If it’s working well, I can do a quick video to let people know about this as a solution.
Sure I will do that tomorrow and let you know once done

Btw, I want to mention that during my research trying to find a solution for the overheating issue, many people mentioned that they noticed a difference when they switched the memory card they are using to Samsung Endurance (which I am using as well). They were switching from Blackvue memory cards, and other 3rd party brands

So Samsung Endurance memory card might be one reason behind the results I am reaching so far

I can honestly say I highly endorse this dash cam. I would not have said that six months ago but I have come to really love this thing. The over heating issue is solved and that was basically it’s only flaw. However it was a big flaw. People are considering a new dash cam definitely don’t hesitate to get this one.

In terms of overheating, I have yet to reach triple digits in my location. Do I understand the issue to surface when using parking mode during a normal business day?

In terms of this heat shielding device, more photos that clarify aesthetics and weight impact on the adhesive would be useful.

In the beginning the thing would overheat at 86deg Outside.

That heatsink looks a bit obnoxious, lol. But if it actually works, can't really complain. I've never had my camera shut down but I generally don't run parking mode. I'll bet that if I parked out in the Sun during the past 2 days (temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s Fahrenheit/upper 30s to low 40s Celsius), I might have seen an overheating issue. The sunshade I use on my car amplifies solar heating on the windshield area too because it reflects so much radiation.

You know I don’t think it looks that bad. Kind of gives it a cool look in my opinion. Pun intended. :)

Those look really cool. However I don’t think I can fit two of them and still use the filter I have on mine. What do you think looking at my pictures?
-- Double Post Merged: --
Also do you have the link to those on Amazon?
I think they will fit with the CPL you have, since it slides from the opposite side of the cam.

It will even fit with PolarizeIt CPL, if you push the heat sinks a little bit aside, I tried that myself

I bought the heat sinks from ebay through the link found in my original post, but its out of stock, try to email the seller to see if he have any left. I can see it is still available in other colors (blue and purple) and other sizes (5 and 9 fins instead of 7)
