Hey all,

I'm going to bring the forum down for 15 minutes at around 4:30AM CST to do our monthly full disk backup.

After that's done, I'm going to upgrade a bunch of addons and finish working on the activation of the CMS system as well as the Classifieds marketplace system, and will also be merging in a bunch of theme modifications that have been pending to be pushed live.

Will update the thread as necessary.

Thanks!

As many of you have noticed, I've removed the Rocket.Chat static bar from the bottom of the forum. I think we'll leave it off since most people use embedded or full-style chat.

There's now a Rocket.Chat button under your visitor panel (obviously) in the sidebar which is what we're going to keep to replace the static bar.

I've been cleaning up a bunch of HTML and other random stuff inside the templates and will be merging in the changes after I finish installing the rest of these addon updates (kill me now) as the day progresses.

The CMS is what I'm working on right now so the Articles area will be activated soon, will be posting back here once that's up.

Additionally, for anyone who cares, here's some charts - everyone loves charts...

Cloudflare bandwidth usage over the past month:

st1.png

CleanTalk.org anti-spam stats of registrations approved/rejected by the CleanTalk service:

st2.png

After the CMS and the Classifieds section conversion is complete (hoping to finish all of this today) I'll be completing and deploying the image optimization function I've been working on for a while now. That's going to be very interesting to see how that affects bandwidth usage overall. But even for some threads, i.e. the first page of the photography thread, it cuts the bandwidth sent to your device by about 65%. And that's only with image optimization enabled - it will be reduced a bit more with the other part of the image optimization function I'm working on now (image dimension optimization based on individual device screen sizes, where images are resized/optimized on the fly/then cached on the CDN, providing literally a lossless image quality transformation but cutting bandwidth for various images down significantly).

More to come in a bit.

Thanks for the update @xydrine! I was unaware how many visitors we had from France. Interesting!

It's the yellow vests, trying to see if we have other methods of disabling traffic cameras.

About to merge in changes/articles system/new addon changes.
-- Double Post Merged: --
@Moderators I just made a change to the spam detection system, to test a few things out. Be aware that there might be an increase in spam registrations during this time.

Addons upgraded, articles system being tweaked with the merged theme changes now.

New Infraction Tracker / Appeals Process system implemented (separate thread regarding this function will be up soon).
-- Double Post Merged: --
Oh, the section access level indicators are implemented/merged in, btw.

accll.png

Should be obvious where they are at. They are visible in this location in every section - above every post - color coded/indicating the current section.

Much less intrusive than the old static banner we used to have in vBulletin, in the bottom left hand corner, back in the day.

I'll push all the latest merged modifications into the live version of the forum later tonight once I finish up a couple more mergers.

Thanks for all the hard work. Sure, this is a shameless kiss up message. However, the facts are the same... thank you.

Thanks everyone!

A lot of time we all take stuff like working on a forum, providing content, contributing to the community - etc etc etc - as just the way things are, they just happen. But I appreciate every kind word everyone gives in that regard and I know the rest of the staff does as well, and that's why I usually go out of my way to thank the community for making it as great at it is, despite all the drama we're going through at the moment, lol. It's still much more positive than negative, and regardless it's something we're all going to have to work towards/through together. So again, much appreciated!

I know what it is like to experience appreciation. And take that in. You and the team deserve us letting you all know how much we do appreciate the efforts and execution. I did want to say, that the execution is excellent. You pick the right things that work, you/and team implement all this very well. When you advance the game on the forum, I almost take for granted anything new works out of the gate,

Another shameless kiss-up. :) BUT could not do that if not speaking reality. Have a great evening.

Okay these are live - subtle changes here and there, user bars, security level indicators, etc.

A lot of the merged changes are in preparation (and not currently activated, but merged into the code) for the mobile fixes I'll be pushing next (and some other basic tweaks to a couple other elements) - which are really the final mergers I need to complete. These mobile fixes will take care of the way certain things are displayed on mobile browsers - you'll notice that if using a mobile browser some things (such as userbars) appear odd - those are all fixed in the mobile fixes coming next. Once these fixes are merged in (will be working on this later today after some ZzZzZs, along with activating the CMS finally) I will duplicate the theme, apply the dark theme color scheme (already configured/complete) and everything as far as the themes go will be complete. There may be a few bug fixes/tweaks from feedback afterwards but we're nearing the very end now.

Nice! I didn't find them necessary, but I don't mind them being there. The only thing I'd request is that you remove the lock icons from it, as it makes it appear that the thread is locked. Coincidentally, the first post I looked at once this change was made was locked, so I thought that was a cool addition. But then other threads not locked still have the lock icon on them above each post.

I think it'd be great to have the lock icons for locked threads, but for all others it doesn't make sense to me.

I don't necessarily think it makes it looked locked (maybe on the public ones...) but on intermediate threads they kind of are locked down lol. On mobile it spills over the date/time of the post ij intermediate. This may be what xydrine was talking about above too- so I will wait until the remainder of changes roll out to see :)

@xydrine: As always, great job. Love the changes. Thanks for all you do.

BUMP! I think if it could be done, to have the locks only on locked threads, that would be great.

Most of our members preferred the status indicators regarding the section access level so it's definitely something we'll be keeping.

I can see how the lock icon may be confusing, perhaps I'll change the lock icon to something else security-related, or responsive icons based on thread criteria, etc.

I have to be liberal (don't go there) in what I put in that bar because on mobile there is not much real estate when it comes to what is in that bar before it starts clipping with other data in the bar.

The way it is looks fine to me for locked threads. For all others, I would say just the text itself like “PUBLIC” for this thread would be sufficient. No iconography needed. Maybe surround it in brackets [ and ] if you think it needs more visual separation?

You should see the stuff I've tried so far, I just can't seem to get it the way I like it. Then I got it the way I liked it with the locks and you disliked it, lol. Should have known :argh:!

@xydrine I love the new notification system regarding which compartment you are on (i.e Public Advanced etc). But can we change the scheme to match the DoD coloring levels? Also change it so it says Unclassified, For Official Use Only, Secret, Top Secret so it will really hose those folks who are viewing this site on a government networks when some co-worker comes by and peaks at your screen.

Oh the hell it would cause...that would be just glorious! I can see me being in Advanced Section on my personal laptop but instead of Advanced it says in Orange "Top Secret" and it's both on top and bottom of the screen. Sigh, one could only dream of the hell that would cause...sigh...

We used original homeland security threat level coloring for the scheme.

As far as...

...goes, love the idea and if our access levels were titled this (as opposed to Int, Adv, etc), would totally do that. But it would totally screw with people's understanding of security levels, lol... not sure if serious though ;).
