Ok, a little more windshield time with the app - the popup does work with Samsung/Android 9/Vaze but only briefly does it pop up for the initial alert. Would it be possible to have the popup stay up for the entire alert? That way, when I get eyeballs on the threat or the passengers start threatening mutiny, I can tap/double-tap the popup and mute the alert.

Also, the popup is too small for all the information it contains. My old eyes can't see it without taking my sunglasses off and getting the popup in that tiny little sweet spot in my progressive lenses where I can read it. Needless to say, that's a bit more time than I should be taking my eyes off the road ahead. Would it be possible to make the popup a little bigger, have a red arrow for forward, green (or yellow) arrow for beside and yellow (or green) arrow for behind and just a simple "Police" or "Airplane" for the type of threat in the popup? If I need any more information, I can tap/double-tap the popup to bring the app to the foreground for more (bigger) information.

But, thank you so much for what you've already done!!

Technically this is possible but is way harder to implement than what is done now. I don't think I can prioritize this now since it would take a lot of time but I still added this to the poll.

Currently, if you tap on alert the application will open so you can mute from there.

Sorry if I missed it in a post, but what is the refresh rate on the data?
For instance, how often does it check for changes to LEO reports?
Thanks, looks so promising so far!

VVaze - 15 seconds
Aircraft - 40 or 10 seconds (10 if there is an aircraft alert shown)

I noticed Daze showing three officers locally, only two are accurately shown on the Highway Radar app. Just installed it and will be testing over the next few days. Thanks for doing this.

The app groups close police alerts into single clusters. They are displayed either as x2/x3/... mark in normal/compact mode or as small dots in map mode. Wasn't this the case?

No, it was a cop on Daze but not showing in your app; not near any other officer showing in the Highway Radar app. But after about five minutes, the Daze icon disappeared; I didn't get a chance to see how old it was before it went away.
I'll see if something like that happens again over the next few days. But, I noticed that new alerts are popping up correctly so everything seems great now.
Your work is greatly appreciated!

I had this idea of scraping Waze data to estimate potential threat at every point of the map at any given time. If you want to build a threat model I'd be happy to help you with gathering Waze data and integrating this into Highway Radar.
That would be great to see. Up here on the Cdn prairies and even in ND, SD, MT, Daze can be hit and miss because there just isn't the population saturation to make it great. But, cops seem to be creatures of habit and frequently use the same locations over and over. With that data captured over time, patterns would emerge of high risk/threat locations.

Not that I'm telling you anything. :) But for others reading along, we possibly addressed this on page 3 as well.

@ferius,
Do you keep old versions of your app as a reference? It may come handy in the future if we could download the APK for older version (maybe from your website) than what is published on the PlayStore. As the app gets more features, and it's more complex, maybe some older phones or OS versions would not be compatible any more. In such cases, it would be nice to have a way to download and installed older version that would still run...

As for now, minimum supported Android version is only going down with releases, I also test applications on Android 4.4 before pushing and try to keep resource-intensive features (like map display) behind some preference. If there are any breaking changes (either for performance or minimum Android support) I'll definitely save the version for download.

Awesome! Thank you for that! It seems you are very detail-oriented, and thinking ahead. Keep up the great work!

Just published v1.3 to the Play Store

In this version I've added an option to start monitoring automatically together with app launch. This should be enabled in settings (General section).
Also added access to settings while monitoring is running. Most preferences are applied immediately after change but some of them may need monitoring being restarted.

Note, it may take some time for the update to be delivered (sometimes up to 24h).

P.S. I keep adding new options to the "next feature" poll, so it may be a good idea to re-check it periodically.

I was running in "normal" mode and had 2 police and 1 aircraft alerts. Switched to "map" mode and the police arrows disappeared but a police marker did show on the map. Without the arrows the map icon alone is easy to miss.

Thank you for the app and recent update. I will be using it and the new start up when opening next week on my motorcycle as I have a work trip that requires 1000km each way, 2 days apart.
Time will be of essense so CMs will be most necessary.
I tested your app, Maps, music and R3 all connected to helmet speakers at once and successful integration.
If only I had better touch screen gloves, I have to lick a glove finger or take it off for Cell display to respond. Not ideal.
But since I had absolutely no CMs a week ago, I feel pretty high tech on the plain Jane cruiser bagger bike. (Old school design, modern bike)
My next bike will have lots of creature comforts and high tech.
Looking forward to spotting an LEO, however Waze seems to be in limited use here. Not one report of anything by users that I have seen.

When I drive in lightly populated rural areas Daze doesn't have much coverage. You'll learn to adjust your speed according to terrain, a rabbit to follow etc. Situational awareness will become your best defense against the roadside tax collectors.

Not to hijack this thread, but I should note that in regards to:

"RDFGS integration"

While we make our data public, permission is still required to use our data - there is a site on the net that scrubbed our data without our permission and that kind of pisses me off.

And with the RDFGSv2 being something that is about to start development, I don't know how much data we will allow to be used by third-party apps/etc, since we will be using it as a proprietary system in both our Android and iOS versions of the app, as well as on the web.

Definitely. I just want to check if community is interested in this feature. If it turns out it is, I'll start reaching out regarding integrating RDFGS into the app.

I have absolutely no plans to scrape RDFGS without a permission from RDF administration even if this option in the poll goes beyond 1M votes.
