Not sure if I follow what you’re saying. Meaning that if you see medical helicopter flight data near by and regularly, that one can assume there are good ADSB feeds near by?
You can determine if the ADSB data in your area, from that site/source, has low flying aircraft in a location. It is just additional information for using the tool(s).

I'm looking into integrating FR24 data as well, however it looks like they strictly forbid scraping in the ToS. So if I support FR24 format, it may require some additional configuration similar to VVase now.

Yes, they are quite touchy about their data.

Looking at them quickly I found:

FR24 claimed 1500* of 13,536 aircraft in a map of US - Washington State to Cuba and a bit out in the Atlantic.
Opensky-network claimed 2524 planes out of 3971 in a similar view. (oddly higher in US but far less overseas)
adsbexchange claimed 4482 out of 7718 in a similar view (it took a while)

So that leads to some odd findings if the data is correct.

adsbecxchange has the most US coverage, 2nd place in global
Opensky places 2nd in the US, 3rd in global
FR24 is 3rd in the US*, 1st in global

* FR24 1500 seemed oddly round. Zooming in a few levels let me see 1500 for 2 or 3 zooms and dropped to 1390 at a final level (zoomed into the NE Corridor) Based on this it looks like FR24 might take 1st in the US if they allowed all the flights to appear.

**Note: All based on the plane counts for both shown and total from their Web interfaces to my anonymous browser (not logged in).

Just pushed version 1.0 to Play Store

Here is a change log:
  • An option to display police alerts on map instead of a list of arrows
Aircraft are still displayed as arrows (see screenshot). This mode can be enabled in settings under "Display type"
  • Support for forcing playing alert audio through speakers through using alarm mode
  • Limited support for Android 4.4
Map display mode is recommended for Android <5.1. Arrows support are very limited (no colors, some elements are missing).
This version has many changes and I'll appreciate if you give me some feedback if it works well or not.

I've been using the app for almost a week now, and I must say, it's excellent. I have wanted something like this for a while because can't stand Waze's UI. The reduced battery consumption is also very nice. It has already saved me twice today from sneaky CHPs shooting LiDAR from behind.

I encountered an issue recently where the app couldn't get GPS data, but restarting my phone fixed that.

Looking forward to trying out the map today.

That would be handy. In the interim and I'm not sure if it helps you, but I learned this morning the map scales to your alert radius.

ADSBx is experiencing some technical issues now (starting from ~6pm PST today), so aircraft alerts don't work.
Would it be possible to alert when the service is down as an in-app notification?

Been using the app on my way from California back home to Texas and I love it!
Suggestions for improvements so far:

-Possibly add a legend in map mode for the type of threat. I haven't seen a plane notification yet but a clear explanation of the alert marks would help

-Alerts get pretty loud and annoying after a while due to the high range. I think an auto mute function similar to the Uniden detectors would be awesome! Have the option for the alerts to be loud at first then after say 3 seconds they quiet down to a user set volume. Just like the Uniden or V1 in that they get your attention then quiet down to a set volume.

-Voice alerts to tell what type of threat would be helpful especially if the app needs to be off screen at that time. I'd love to hear it alert then say "police reported ahead" or "police aircraft in your area"

Thanks again for sharing your hard work.

Only police alerts are shown on the map. Aircraft are only displayed under then map (see screenshot in #104 for example)

Totally agree on this.

I'll think about this. It might take some time but should be possible.

Ever have one of those days that everything is going great and then something even bigger happens? The sun is coming out, my mother-in-law goes home tomorrow, finished up a project that sounds really impressive and self anoints myself with awesome stickers in a gratuitously self back patting display that was sanctioned by two departments*, stopped by the house during lunch to see my mother-in-law packing.
On the way back to the office, I thought I would try out the new map display and came across my first civil air patrol warning along with a radar trap. I hereby award you my awesome sticker and this application has graduated to the place where my waxe app was displayed on the main page of my phone. I honestly had no idea that LEO had ever used planes where I live and work.

* A department here at corp had a paper map combined with a protractor and lots of cursing as they were trying to figure out all of our 145 Lots and 1500 employees spread over 11 sates that were within a 75 mile radius of each other. Created a report in MS-SQL/SSRS that accomplished the same task instantly and then trying to explain spatial analysis to the HR director will make it look like Einstein was caught copying over your answers in a class test. In reality, I cooked booked it but don't tell anyone.

Galaxy s4, android 5.0.1, stock sw.
App store download and installed perfect. Runs great, looks great. Love the Dark Controls option, this will save on battery life.
Map display and Normal display work as expected. Compact Display looks just like Normal.
GPS needed to be in precision mode, not GPS only to start.
I could not get multi window to work. App did not show in Samsung multi window menu (neither does waze or Escort ).
Thank you for a ton of hard work!
