Are you telling me every speedcam/RLC in North America is in a 76K bin file? Either there's a lot less Speed/RLC cams outside of my area or, there's some voodoo compression going on here..

Thanks @Mithheru

Actually Canada as well!

Actually that latest file contains the alert data for 9069 separate positions. When we tested a new one for Europe we built in over 11,000 positions. It can handle more.

Question. Once I start using your DB's I have to continue to correct? I mean if you add 50 camera's and speed zones (for example) and then Uniden releases a DB update that does not have those or all of them, we will lose them if we update to the one they released. Correct? Will it not over write what you added?

Calgary Alberta Canada

Bowness Road headed West at Shaganappi Trail (GPS is in the picture)

Red Light camera AND a Speed Camera. Speed Camera says the speed limit is 50KM’s it is 60KM’s in this spot. (it is the same in both directions if that makes a difference.

On the R7, can you still use Uniden R Series DB Download Tool V1.11 to just update the GPS database or is there a different way?

That is correct. However, my update tools is also designed to fully dissassemble and rebuild an updated Uniden database. It does this by simultaneously comparing the updates from the new uniden version, the latest previous Uniden version and my latest updated version. It then automatically keeps the relevant updates and removals, and also queries any updates that are a similar match made by both myself and Uniden. Therefore this ensures we never loose anything unintentional as well as not to build in duplicates.

So in actual fact, what I release here is still fully updated both from these posts but also from Uniden’s latest release.

Also if you decide you don’t like my release you can always reinstall one of Uniden ones. All these databases are completely compatible with your hardware. Everytime you update the database it will completely overwrite what came before. Therefore I provide here fully compatible, user made improvements.

I recommend either the upload tool V1.27 for the R7, or else the Mac version 1.2 both work with these updates for the R7 (and also the R3).

I don't remember what it looked like, but I didn't think the newer tools allowed just a DB update. That's why I used 1.11 for the R3 and was wondering about the R7.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I couldn't get 1.27 to work with my R7. Probably user error on my part but...v1.28 worked fine for just the db file.

I can build in the R7 firmware into the same file, its no trouble for me, as I just select that option when I build the file.
Perhaps I just release a separate R7 version each time.

Thanks, but if 1.27 can be used to just update the GPS db, there's no need.

Yes this is now built for you:

Again this is just the database file.

Big Kudos on this!! Can you remove some more speedcams that no longer exist for me?

On I-95: 39.284540, -76.544475 (On a bend, but it goes off going North or South. Some overlap, but not exactly the same)
On 695: 39.333135, -76.744632 (Goes off going North and South, but I don't think it's the exact location, but they do overlap a bit)
On 29: 39.181109, -76.874677 (This sets off going North, but it might set off going south too)

I hope my notes make sense. BTW, there's a few more, but I don't want to put you on a wild goose chase because I might be off by a 1/2 mile or more on them.

Thanks again!

Actually easier for me to add/remove them in one go. If you're out by 1/2 a mile or so, it may not matter unless there are lots of others in the same area.
At the end of the day, if I'm not sure which ones to remove, I can confirm with you before I rebuild.

So, please if you have more, go ahead, list them all. Even 10 or more, it's no trouble.

I wish I could just give you aprox locations, but the others are in areas I don't normally go by. I tried looking them up on SCDB's site, but they no longer have them listed.

Could you take take of these for now., and for the next go, I'll collect a list of them to submit at once.

=> On I-95: 39.284540, -76.544475 (On a bend, but it goes off going North or South. Some overlap, but not exactly the same)
- Confirmed as two separate alerts here in the database. Both now removed.

=>. On 695: 39.333135, -76.744632 (Goes off going North and South, but I don't think it's the exact location, but they do overlap a bit)
Can’t find this one. Closest would be: (39.3359108,-76.7098007) [Redlight Camera]; (39.3344193,-76.6207809) 30mph Speed Cam; (39.3339882,-76.6641388) 30mph Speed Cam; and (39.3312683,-76.7307205) 20mph Speed Cam.

Are you are sure you were using a recent database? All these current updates build upon Uniden's 4th July 2019 USA/Canada database.

On 29: 39.181109, -76.874677 (This sets off going North, but it might set off going south too)
Now removed. Northbound looks to be the only alert in the database.

PhotoEnforced DOES NOT operate, run or manage any of the actual red light camera locations. Please contact your local city with questions regarding tickets, fines or unpaid violations. Drivers often confuse traffic cameras with red light cameras. Traffic cameras do not issue tickets and typically are located on top of the traffic light. Red light cameras are located on the side or the corner of the intersection. Drivers often mistake traffic cameras which are located on the traffic pole. These cameras are monitoring traffic flow only and do not issue photo enforced tickets. Please contact your local city with questions regarding video, accidents, tickets, fines or unpaid violations.

They have a list of cities they cover but haven't learned to break down a webpage and extract data.

The one I'm speaking of is definitely a speed cam. I wonder if I got the wrong location from google maps. I might not be by there this week because I need to put my car in the shop. Got rear ended a couple weeks ago. But once I can confirm, I'll let you know.

Thanks again!

BTW, I don't know how your decompiling the bin files because it sure can't be just a hex editor.. But I would love to know.

Err yes and no. I would also need additional information about the direction for the camera, the type of camera and the speed limit (if its a speed camera and you want the overspeed alert set correctly). If I could get all the raw data I needed, then it would be easy to build an entirely new binary gps file.

Obviously I could also make an entire map based upon what is currently contained in the Uniden binary and make it available so you could all see what is included in your areas. However, I think I had better run this past Uniden USA before I go a step too far and got into trouble!

You need a lot more than a hex editor! It took me many months of work and testing as well as a good understanding and recognition of binary. Suffice to say there is a process of encryption, a need to recognise the data format, a need to understand the memory allocation and constraints for the 32bit system, as well as a need to recognise Uniden allocation for regional changes in gps resolution etc. etc.. Suffice to say, I have now written lots of modules and bits of code. However, I can pretty much do whatever I want with it.

@Mithheru Seeking confirmation. I rely on the QuietRide feature in the DFR7. Set to 50kph I find that's a bit low yet the next setting up is 10kph, so is 60kph and that's a bit high.
If I change my DFR7 units to mph and set 35mph (which is 56kph and likely to be just right for my purposes) is the gps database and DFR7 smart enough to work correctly at that new speed on the fly?

Thanks in anticipation!

gps database should be unaffected by your elected speed setting. The gps database has its own units set for each camera location. Some are in kmh (i.e. most of Canada) and many are in mph (i.e. most of the USA). Therefore you could run your DFR7 either in mph or kmh to optimise quiet ride without any effect on gps alerts.
Personally I have my quiet ride set to 30kmh. I.e. I would like to be warned of a potential redflex in a 50km/h area even before I am tempted to exceed the speed limit!
