See info on the mount here.

Has anyone tested whether this mount effects the radar detectors performance at all? Seems like a good way to mount an R3 on a motorcycle?

my only concern is will that block the "exhaust" part of the RD? Maybe not.

I was just worried the magnet might interfere with the performance of the radar detector.

Maybe @UnidenSupport can ask the engineers about this. I've wondered the same.

Passing this along.

It certainly seems like it could be problematic, but i'm guessing "we have not tested it and cannot say much, and we recommend using mounts we know will not cause a problem."

@kab343 - Take a look at this thread I started. I've been compiling a list of various accessories for radar detectors, including different brands of mounts.

Im using the magnetic RAM mount on my motorcycle and I've not noticed any performance problems ..granted, I have not done any tests but it "seems" to operate the same as it does when its mounted to the windshield of my car

I used the same mounting system on my motorcycles. I actually experienced a little bit of improved performance vs behind the windshield of my car.

Tested on a fixed 34.7 source.

Magnets do not affect EM radiation (radar), in the GRAND scheme of things, like for the purposes of radar detection.

However, my concern would be with the magnet slowly magnetizing the antenna inside the V1 over time, which will happen (leave a magnet on a knife for a month and see what happens). This is the subject area that remains unknown.

Any of you old farts remember the Whistler Spectrum that came out with a magnet mount in the 80s. Don't think you have anything to worry about. I think magnet mounts offer tons of flexibility to options for stealth mounting.

Thanks all for your advice, I've ordered one so I'll let you know how I get on.

I ordered one of these RAM magnetic mounts a week ago and it is due here early next week.
R3 getting mounted to it.
I noticed all the new high end Escorts have a slick magnetic mount so I will assume the best.
I still will be wrapping an elastic band around it because $$ if it drops.

@DC Fluid likewise, I'll be using an elastic band and/or zipties as security to make sure it doesn't fly off unexpectedly. I'm going to try and mount mine above my dash in behind the screen, will let you know how I get on. What sort of bike do you ride?

Yamaha V-Star 950T - very handlebar limit space.
Got my plan for FJR 1300 next year.

Nice, I've got a KTM 1190 Adventure, pretty awesome for New Zealand. V-twins aren't very friendly to suction cup mounts haha, any way I 've tried to mount my R3 with suction cups has miserably failed.

Any windshield mount of any device is a disaster on mine, rev it up and a GoPro looks like aliens are attacking.
Only mounting on the rubber mounted handlebars or your body works.

RAM Mount delivered!
Need to get home and install it.
Pictures to come.
R3 manuals informs users to try not to block vents on bottom when applying velcro for dash mounting.
I will try my best....

Mine just turned up as well, the plate is quite large, think I might trim away some tape where it covers the vent holes so there is a small air gap.
