May already be a known issue. I shot my R7 with a Laser Tester and it didn't make a peep.

Which laser guns does your tester simulate? I just did a quick bench test and found that the R7 does alert to the DESL, DETC, TSS, and XLR. It's not the most sensitive detector ever, but it is capable of alerting to the guns.

Yea, some others have mentioned the R7 staying silent during testing/real world encounters I believe. I have come to not really care about the laser performance of my radar detector.

It simulates all the major brands. I hit it with all of them and got zip. It was on the shipping FW. I noticed in your video you had to hit the front horn as the rear rarely worked.

Which tester are you using? I'm trying it with the AL tester and it's alerting just fine. Maybe it's something with your tester? I dunno.

The horns themselves won't pick up laser.

I did it too. Shoot around the light tube.

What's the difference?
Non ECCM ones is the type Scott sends testers.
ECCM is the ones the cops get. Non Jam-able FW.

One has anti jam sauce, the other doesn't.

My unit didn't make a sound. Maybe it was just a bad detector.

Uniden has pi$$ poor laser detection in either case... real or not, I wouldn't worry about it.

So you bought a radar detector to protect you from laser?

I want to get a TMG and it is probably in my future to buy list, my problem is how to mount them on my bike and transfer to car when driving car, I need it more on the bike than in the car that is for sure as my bike can hit 130 mph from 55 after passing a 3 cars on a highway.

where I wish the detector was good with laser is in the event I install it in the bike, think about it like this. I install the TMG and hide all the installation on water proof plastic, then I rely on the detector to tell me when I am getting hit with laser to slow it it down while the TMG works on the background to jam.

So the radar detector having a good laser detector could have it's uses.

I would really like a laser detection test done by the professional testers in this forum but for some reason they are flat out refusing (I am looking at you Vortex) when there is a geniune interest in laser detection in the community, the arguments of "testing laser is too hard" are hard to hear coming from professional reviewers that invest several hours installing permanently installed detectors on their cars for their test videos.

If the community is asking for these tests why not? it almost looks like they are trying to protect the manufacturers from a review they know they will fail.

Is that a tester that you would recommend?
