I know we have a good contingent up in NC so wanted to reach out to you guys.

As of Monday, I will be adding myself to that mix. We're moving to the Greensboro area from the FL panhandle. I'll be traveling around within a couple hours radius a pretty good bit. I know NCSP is really tough. Lots of IO, 35.5, well concealed positions, laser, etc. Fines/penalties are pretty steep as well if I remember correctly? 15+ is bad news I believe. I'll have some business in VA as well, so well documented of the dangers there. Some experience with that with my wife's family being in Bristol, TN.

Any other tips or words of wisdom?

Currently running a Magnum, but will be updating to an R series I think once the moving dust settles. I made a trip up there this weekend and the BSMs were unbearable on the ole M3.

At least you have a healthy respect for NC State Troopers! That's a good start! They are relentless and use every dirty trick known to mankind! One positive thing has happened recently however! They have started running 34.7 for awhile now. The are slowly changing from 35.5 which is something I never thought would happen. There is no comparison between the two! 34.7 is so much easier to detect and it seems like it has a lot more power when they shoot you. It's still 99% I/O however, so you'll need the best detector you can get to survive! A band segged Magnum will serve you just fine, I know this because I still run my Redline-O with my R1 and they kill it together! I have the Redline in the back glass running 5-6-8 only the R1 is also running 5-6-8 because there is no 33.8 anywhere near me. I'm not sure about Greensboro however, so you might want to run seg 2 till you are sure. There is still just enough k band to be a pain in the @ss , so I run city mode with the R1 with k filter on. There is still some 35.5 around too, way too much in fact! Va. Troopers suck almost as bad as NC Troopers BTW! Good luck! I run TSR on the Redline if I run K band, and that calms it down quite a bit!

I use xp for city driving and the R3 for highway with waze, waze helps a lot as many of the troopers are damn good at IO. Typically will be at underpasses and hidden spots they like to use routinely.

Welcome to Greensboro! - Moto cops use laser and Kband in town. The loop is patrolled almost daily. Still a lot of Kband in patrol cars and they love IO

Welcome to NC. Eastern BBQ is better (pork w/ vinegar-base). there is western and eastern NC BBQ. I-85 is kinda the dividing line between east and west.

You MUST try the Pork Tenderloin bisquit at Country BBQ on Wendover Ave (across from Costco). There's nothing like it anywhere.

I'm 1.5 hours away if you ever cruise out east towards Raleigh.

Here
@athensman - I think it's interesting just how much tactics and enforcement vary by region. What things have you noticed about NC since moving there? Hopefully your move went well.

I will have to check it out. I am very very very close to there.

I’m out that way a pretty good bit. We have a Depot in Fuquay-Varina that services that whole area that I visit periodically.

It’s been interesting. Although I cover a decently large territory, it’s nothing like covering the whole state of Florida. So I feel like I don’t have as good a taste. I cruised at +15 in Florida on the interstate and honestly didn’t think too much of it. I don’t do that here. I feel like I haven’t seen as much enforcement volume wise, but what I have seen is much “better” (worse for us). I run a magnum and always had tons of range in FL. Troopers there seemed perfectly content to run CO from a slightly hidden location. Here it’s almost always well hidden IO. Definitely seen way more laser, but Charlotte/WS-G’boro/Raleigh are all way bigger metro areas than I was in so makes sense.

The Magnum is also really needing to be upgraded. The BSM around here is so much worse. In town, which there is way more of, and even the interstates are just a lot more heavily trafficked. It’s also weird having way more highways here. In Florida, almost anywhere was interstate 90% of the way.

A lot of moving IO and/or unmarked units doing moving enforcement. Especially on 40/77.

Keep your car registered in Florida if you can and a Florida address to keep your license

Unfortunately our fleet department at work tracks it even for non-CDLs/drivers so I had to change. Registration in NC was a extremely unpleasant surprise. It cost me like $1400 for a 16 Fusion and 17 Escape.

Yes they attach property taxes and vehicles to a $40 safety inspection
Like $260/year for a 20k car
A new 37k car is like $500 with tint
Florida has NO inspections
Take the cat off? Run non carb approved headers? Tint darker than limit
All can be done in Florida
Plus no state income tax
I miss home

I hate to be a cheap ass but I started disputing my annual taxes every year for a few years on my new car they will mark it up to get more $$$ car value goes from 35k to 20k and taxes are down maybe 20 or 50 bucks the math never adds up.

I already tried to dispute
They charge you full retail value and more something someone would never pay
I tried to dispute the 17500 on my Lexus when I paid 13500
They said they make the rules no appeal they Jack it as much as they want
This car was bought bmw for 17500
So it'll go to 22k or stay 17k for 5 years
