Wife got tagged with laser, doing 64/45, he cut it to 54/45. She was in a rental as her Subie was in the shop due to an accident a month back (not her fault, and she's OK). Vero Beach, FL, US1. Indian River County Sheriff. Not a huge fine but just don't want the insurance hike, points, etc.

Going to fight it, but does anyone have any info. for this area, lawyers, etc? How about those ticket clinics? What's the chance of getting a non-moving violation, and how do you do that? Just looking for the best way to fight this. It's been so long since I got a ticket, I actually forget what I used to do. I think it was go to court and see if the cop showed up and if not, ask for a dismissal. Maybe that's changed

Anyway, your input is appreciated. Thanks.

>Rant on. Really pissed at her as she got off (a gift) about a month ago going 67/45 with just a warning (different PD, SLC sheriff). Told her to watch her speed in the rental, and boom, a ticket...grrr...rant off<

Only 10 above PSL it's easy to fight. Just walk up there look for the the clerk and ask to cut a deal with prosecutor. Don't worry about companies and lawyers as I mentioned 10 above should be easy.

I don't even think he'll mention points to you; 10 above is nothing but yes, keep in mind that points should always be avoided.

Get her to learn how to use a CM or tell her to slow down.

Also note that each person has 5 traffic school get out of jail cards per lifetime in FL. You do traffic school you get no points just pay the fine. I would save them for a bigger tickets so I'd try either a ticket clinic or just try negotiating with the prosecutor before hand.

Didn't realize you were so close by. Laser has been hot the last couple weeks, I'm up to 4 hits in two weeks.

Sounds like perhaps some counter measures are in order, two tickets is probably good enough justification. Let me know if you need any CM help. I have laser guns and a radar gun if you need to test anything :)

I used to have great luck directly calling the prosecutor at his office and asking for a non moving violation (if done right) if not done right and he doesnt play ball you can convict yourself
This was pinellas county years ago

Fight it tooth and nail. Never give up your "get out of jail free" card under any circumstances unless it's absolutely required (i.e. a judge finds you guilty at trial). Tickets in Florida stay on your record for 75 years. No that is not a typo. Even if you take traffic school to make it "invisible" to insurance companies, it stays on there because the state needs to keep track of how many times you've done traffic school. I have no Florida court system experience to share but possibly @PointerCone can provide some insight?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I really appreciate it.

Leaning toward a lawyer / ticket clinic at this point. Just don't want the points / insurance hike. Yeah, when she gets her Subie back we are going to discuss CM's. Traffic school on the table as a last resort.

@PointerCone - any other tips not discussed?

I hate dealing with the courts at all! I would just find a lawyer from the area and let them get it reduced to a non moving violation. In NC, you can easily make it worse by talking to a DA, depending on what mood he/she is in. BTW, I've never seen one in a good mood! Last time I tried it, they told me to have a seat and tell it to the judge!

I'm not in Florida, but a lot of the traffic court prosecutors will offer a standard plea if you talk to them, usually just before court convenes. Seems a small enough ticket that a no points/ full dollar fine amount offer may be made. Been my experience anyway...

Besides, if they don't play ball you can enter a not guilty plea and move to the lawyer option next.

Florida is a greedy ass state, they'll take your money in court costs and a fine....you can go yourself or if you're busy with work and life in general get a ticket lawyer to go for you, most of the lawyers in Florida aren't stupid and will delay the ticket the most they can and settle on a date they know the cop won't be able to show up on, I've had 3 tickets dismissed, mostly all of them for speeding, nothing super major (I got a ticket for going 40 in a 35 in Coral Springs -completely stupid - judge laughed and dismissed it -paid the fine)

Hey guys, thanks for all the tips. Found a lawyer who is going to take care of it. Not going to go into detail for obvious reasons, but it looks good. Thanks all.

Too late now, but moto cops sit just past indrio rd. and us1 in vero bch(on us1 median north of Indrio rd.)... they nail people with laser almost daily just north of that intersection by 1 mile.(past mc donalds)
People heading north on us1 fly through that intersection and you cant see the moto cops till your tagged.
Usually 2 motorcycle cops 1 shooting southbound laser, the other northbound.
