I drive an E550 Mercedes sedan with an AMG twin turbo V8 and don't really know what I need relative to windshield or remote mount; remote appeals to me because of theft or the fact that law enforcement could see it and might not react favorably. But having seen a U Tube video on an Audi S5 installation it would seem to be very expensive. I would like to be under $1000.
I live in Orange County, CA but am mostly concerned with driving I 10 from Orange County to Central Texas. I generally drive 80 -85 on freeways but love driving the car on Texas 2 lane roads with hills, twisties and fast sweepers. I never go over 130 when passing but can be close to 100 mph for periods. My countermeasures consist of visual-continuous sweeping and a long history of knowing types of places law enforcement hides. I don't blow thru intersections and always plan ahead; if this seems extreme I have an FIA and SCCA competition license in high performance sports cars.
Until last year I had not had a ticket for about 40 years and that was for 20 over in a small town in TX. I know it is partially dumb luck and want to decrease the odds of getting one.
My phone is an Apple 8 and I would be happy to use it as part of an RD system.
I have never used a detection unit but know I need one

Uniden R3 for radar & ALP for laser is what I'm currently running, and I would definetly recommend it. works amazingly for me.

For $1000 budget your going to be pretty tight on getting a RD and LJs. A Uniden R3 and Dual head TMG system will be close to your budget. Otherwise, you'll blow your budget pretty quickly. If your willing to blow your budget I'd suggest either Net Radar DSP or Radenso RC-M for installed radar detectors.

Ever read the story of Mario Andretti getting pulled over at 190 by the cops?
