So I’m going south on Holt road and see a truck speeding up. I press my foot to the pedal and get up to his speed. I didn’t know the PSL, and didn’t have Waze running (could have possibly saved me).

As I pass Sam Jones Expressway, I hear my R3 make a noise I’ve NEVER HEARD. In less than a second, I glance over and see I’ve been hit with laser, so I hit the breaks LOL (prob SOL at this point) but I look in my rear view mirror for the red and blue light, nothing.

I never even saw a police car. If there was a car, they’d have to be on the expressway ramp, pointing their gun towards me.

I believe that the officer was there, pointing his gun at traffic on the expressway but once he heard my loud ass exhaust he pointed it on me, didn’t get a reading, and didn’t chase me down to hand me the bad news.

I got lucky!! Whewww first time getting hit with LIDAR had my heart beating pretty fast LOL

I got hit with Laser last time I was in Indy. Weird thing, it was In January, freezing cold and the LEO was on a bike! Crazy.

Could have also been a laser false
Do the Unidens have a falsing history on laser? That would be funny since they are notorious at missing laser on direct shots.

@Missie426 so my Valentine falses so much to laser I use it as a Infiniti Q45 detector.

thanks

With the V1, yes it was VERY sensitive, but it picked up lidar scatter like nothing else. After running ALP for a while, I eventually disabled the V1 Laser, no need for added noise in the cabin... Only had the Redline false 1 time when I was driving into the sun, R3 I don't even know what the laser alerts sounds like!

The R1/R3 do yes. I know in firmware 1.48 Uniden listed laser falsing as being improved and IIRC the same in an earlier firmware. Some members said it helped, others said it made it worse. There were also members reporting that their R1/R3 never falsed to laser at all no matter the firmware they were running, so really all over the place. When I had the R3, I only received laser falses with my phone directly below the R3. I haven’t see any reports of laser falsing with the R7 yet.

Google and "here" mapping cars can cause a lot of lidar falses from quite a distance, even off to the side.

On the interstate? That IS unusual in January. They normally put the bikes away when it is cold outside.

The only laser falsing I had with my R1 was at a test event. It was tested against a Dragon Eye, which it picked up. After that, it falsed a few times on a radar test run, but it never happened again. I did pick up a legit lidar hit from ISP.

I didn’t know that. My R3 is great for laser. I have had no falses but have gotten warnings several times for the real deal. I have been lucky I guess, i got warnings, slowed down and no tickets. My R3 is in my backup box right now and i am using a new R7, but have not seen laser since i got the R7. I plan on getting some laser protection anyway.

I suspect that it's not simply about whether Uniden's can detect laser or not. It's about at least two factors:

Types of lidar used
Detector mounting location and possible obstructions

There's certainly a significant degree of irony in this. ;) I know my R3 falsed so often to laser that I just turned off laser. I've been much happier since I made that move.
