What a bloody crock of ****. Just install those crazy speed bumps we have along the Horace Harding, that'll slow em down.

Yeah, sad. NY had a big budget short fall, over $1B. They have to recoup revenue somehow and these speed cameras are a decent way to make a dent with little cost. Unfortunately, again, at the expense of hard working tax payers.

Wait until you see what else is possibly in the works, Gatso Stoplight cameras are already in Albany and may be rolled out State wide. Also there are considerations of other speed measuring devices included with the new toll systems that are slated to be installed at the end of this year through 2010.. The governor could include the Average Speed cameras as part of the new Camera toll system as an executive order.

The state is hurting big time for $$. With these new tax laws a lot of people and businesses are moving out (over 40K higher income earners left in 2018 alone), and the exodus to Florida and other lower taxed states will continue. Currently the deficit is around $3 Billion and if the economy slows, it will balloon quickly from less taxes on wall street earnings and less sales tax collected.

We spent over $4 Billion on the Tappan Zee bridge (closer to $6 Billion when you add the soft costs, transportation, LEO overtime etc.) and then the Governor renamed the bridge after his father.

NY is now the highest taxed state with the average taxpayer sending 13% of their earned income towards State Taxes (Income, Property, Sales, Gas, Excise and mortgage recording - which is not everything) All of this paid with less of a federal tax deduction due to the SALT limitations.

Trooper unions are currently our best defense against new automated speed enforcement devices, however if there is no money to pay their salary al bets are off. With a large percentage of the population from the city who do not drive, there is little risk of the politicians being voted out over these revenue raising techniques as those voters will never incur this extra road tax.

Good thing he's doing this rather than look at addressing the real issues...

Well, speeding is a major issue in NYC. Safety first. I mean, just look at how well the speed limit change to 25 worked out.

Idea for Cuomo & Deblasio: Reduce the Speed Limit to 2 MPH so more ticket income can be collected.
That would just end up increasing spending on incarcerations and court costs in the long run. Then again, by the time it had an effect they'd be out of office anyway so they probably wouldn't care.

"speeding infractions have decreased significantly in the zones where cameras have been installed"

Well of course they have, what idiot is going to speed through a zone knowing a fine will be coming in the mail. Just will push people to speed in other areas, which seems like they are trying to cover that as well..

I'm sure the greatest problem facing the people of New York is speeding. If only everyone obeyed the PSL, it would be nirvana in every way.

Yep. These twats are just fine. I’m sure the speed cams will help.

These biker “gangs” should find themselves under a truck tire. Apparently didn’t like that I didn’t yield to him. That kid walking by didn’t even flinch. That’s how fu cked of a place this is.

Lesson learned: BlackVue cam quality is still useless. But, it is fun when I can actually use the side cam.

Once the new speed cams are active I will feel much safer driving in NYC. Everything else wrong with NYC will just fade away as I embrace my newfound comfort. I'm sure I won't even notice the 30 mile stretch of tents and tarps draped along the NYC streets. It'll be nothing but roses and white picket fences.

I’m for tariffs if they mean less of these pieces of **** on the roads. I bet these folks have members in power that lobby this **** because common minded people rebuke it.
