This is not good - they probably rounded up 17 random people who are similar to Americans in ethnicity and are charging them as spies...
They might have charged someone who stood up their daughter and will execute him. Or perhaps a neighbor whose property they want.

Yes, a mercenary guards could've defended it too. This is why it looks suspicious that this tanker was allowed to sail in dangerous region without any protection. It was either used as bait to lure Iranians into retaliatory capture (which was successful) or the owners of the tanker are just too stupid.

In any case Iranians have seriously ****ed themselves by capturing it even if they did not damage the tanker and the crew. Their ships will definitely be fired at even if they would be in international waters without intention to capture other ships and there will be other responses since this capture was obviously unjustified and they do not hide that they did it.
I think arms on board might just cause Iran to declare them a warship and sink them outright. The lunacy is strong with this group.

A few aircraft arriving at mach 2 and blowing their ships and helicopters away would be my preferred approach.

I did just come across info that Britain is down to 2 aircraft carriers, 2 destroyers and 8 frigates in active service. If that's accurate, it's pretty sad.

There’s no need to invest in your military when you have America fighting for you.
Looks like the likely next prime minister, Boris Johnson isn't going to continue this path, committed to 15 billion additional pounds of defense spending.

I just saw this. I had no clue that they had diminished their navy this bad.

I wonder if they are getting more
No, two is it now - not sure if the F-35's they bought for them are ready yet. Been flying Apache's from them until they come, or the carriers are ready for them

I believe the active list is even worse. Either way it's not up to par.

What is the punishment for piracy under international law?
It used to be death by walking the plank. I could live with that.
Starving in a gibbet or hanging (English Admiralty law in the age of Caribbean piracy)

Meanwhile Russia is ramping up their Navy, same goes for China. The former commune is re-entering the Naval battlefield.

The thing is Iran knows we (the world) aren’t going to do ****. Because this isn’t a blow a couple places up type of deal to straighten them up. This is either we just let Iran do what they want or an all out assault that crushes their military. And the world is tired of Iraq/Afghanistan. No one wants anything to do with an all out assault.

Really, unless we planned on taking this as far as is needed, we should have just left the original deal in place and pretended like it was good.
