There are other powers in the region, (including US allies Saudi Arabia, Israeli, etc.) that would benefit significantly by drawing the US and Iran into direct conflict. So much so that by leaving purposeful clues pointing to Iran would do the trick. Things are not as black & white as they may seem. The US hasn’t fought a formidable opponent since WWII, and Iran wouldn’t take an attack lightly. Think, there is more going on here.

As of 6pm EST, news sources are reporting that an Iranian vessel fired a missile at our drone patrolling in the vicinity of the attack; however, the missile missed its target

Now, this is going to get interesting very quickly.

That actually reminded me of anime I watched called "Gate", where Japan was attacked by other country from parallel universe through the gate between worlds but they successfully repelled the attack and retaliated ;-)

It was actually pretty good - it was showing the technological superiority of JSDF weapons and the whole "Japanese army is kind to people who are friendly but will retaliate without remorse to any enemy attacks and they never leave any men behind", plus the usual anime stuff and humor. The original story was written by former JSDF member and I believe characters from anime were used by actual JSDF for recruitment purposes.

I wish US Army did a similar propaganda anime ;-)

Yep the military uses many tools to recruit people - games, videos, etc.

Getting this thread back on topic.

Hasn't Syria been gassing people? Is it Iraqi gas???
Why would you assume that it was Iraqi gas? And not, for example, Russian, who is the country that used to manufacture tons of such ammunition and freely sell it and the technology how to produce those to ANYONE willing to pay?

A country that will continue dealing with and praising ANY state or government (including Iran) that is financially profitable for them and which can be used for destabilizing the peace and economy of "enemy countries":
;-)

Oh, and just wanted to add something about current situation: I don't discard the possibility of Iran involvement but instead of baseless accusations the whole situation can be resolved by providing a military escort to the tankers as well as hiring mercenaries to guard them, then just shoot at whomever will try to approach them. Similar way the countries dealt with Somali pirates. And US doesn't need to involve themselves unless the owners of tankers would be willing to pay for military escort.

Also, Syria had a fairly advanced WMD program dating back to the Cold War (with obvious assistance from Russia) and if anything, more advanced than Iraq's.

Now back on topic, and addressing @CPB's comment, it would be incredibly foolish to launch a second round of attacks while the entire world is watching unless some in the Iranian government/military are itching for war (which they'd lose). If anything, they were responsible for the first attacks but not the most recent ones. I wouldn't rule out Saudi Arabia or the UAE being involved as they have strong motives to provoke a conflict between the US and Iran. One, seeing their arch rival weakened (or eliminated) and second, having someone else do it for them. Just my 2 cents.

As with everything, ask yourself "who benefits?".

Cognitive dissonance is real and pervasive.

“Americans” is a very broad term. Would you care to be specific as to what “Americans” are looking for an excuse to attack Iran?

I’m looking forward to this one.

If only I trusted one word coming out of the White House.
Exactly. Good thing that dude is not president anymore

Are you suggesting we don't have a bunch of warhawks throughout the government?

Imagine how happy Bolton is.

I’m not going to get political, but I’d bet my life that more lies have come from this White House than every other White House combined. As a former member of the US Army and a supporter of both Republicans and Democrats, I know bullshit when I see and hear it.

You’re right. Your statement wasn’t political at all. :ughh:

Just wondering if you were some sort of psychic and could identify those who are and those that are not. And if you are a psychic I was wondering if you could help me with some bets I have going. You just missed the horses running here in Tampa. You and I could’ve made a fortune together with your abilities.

Your statement is broad and quite offensive. Would you like to offer some proof that Bolton would be happy to get our country involved in yet another stupid war? I’ll help you out with that. You don’t have any proof it’s merely your opinion.

Just out of curiosity, because you served in the army or me in the Navy does that make us more qualified to determine who in this White House or any white house is full of crap or not? Just wondering. Get back to me on that one when you can.

We can go with the evidence by looking at how often he promotes foreign intervention. He's a warhawk.

Whoever reported Patton. Just ignore him. I did few years ago and life has been better. His go to motto is to instigate a fight so others will get banned while he just stands back and watches the commotion. Don't play into his game just ignore him and move on.I
