I've kind of had it up to here with the 7-8 months of rain and overcast skies in Oregon, so while I'm being semi-forced out of the place I currently live, I'm looking into just uprooting and getting the hell away from here. AZ is number one on my list right now because of the sunny weather and lack of humidity. But wherever I end up moving, whether it's just to another city or another state entirely, I need to find out if they have crazy ass speed enforcement tactics that would make it a difficult place to live. I know Scottsdale has those cactus cameras, but I imagine they're K band or laser and stationary, no? Not something particularly hard to work around. what about the other areas? I'd probably be living around Phoenix or a bit South of there if I did decide to end up moving there.

Anything over 85 or +20 can be a criminal citation. It's not the end of the world to get one, but definitely keep that in mind and get a lawyer if needed. Arizona apparently ranks 12th on likelihood of getting a ticket. Probably not the best state for speeders, but I personally wouldn't avoid moving there because of it. There are plenty of open roads with little enforcement.

I think Phoenix has a great location near California and all that comes with it but with 1/3 the housing costs and taxes of LA and great weather 8 months of the year. It's just the couple months of 106º heat that prevent me from wanting to move there. Then again, Flagstaff is 25º cooler and only 2 hours away.

It's really not to bad to be honest. Just my experience, but I never see stuff like moving I/O, rarely see I/O, never Vascar, never pacing... unless you're unlucky and floor it entering the freeway and there just happens to be a cop a 1/4 mile behind, and he A) notices you and B) isn't feeling lazy. Mostly it's C/O and some laser. About half the times I've been hit with laser the cop was nice enough to leave his KA antenna running C/O for the benefit of us detector users.

If you have jammers, the good news is all the guns I've seen are legacy non-VPR (PL3/4, Marksman/Ultralyte).. Paradise Valley has Stalker XLR.

Speed and RLC are limited to the Phoenix metro area and it's suburbs. They're all on Waze or in a detector's database anyway. And yes, they're K band (MRCT). Scottsdale used to have laser cams but I think those are all gone now. A lot of the cities in the Phx metro area have mobile Redflex or ATS SUV/vans. State law says they must put a portable "photo enforcement ahead" sign a couple hundred yards or so ahead of the location. Those signs can still be easy to miss if you're not paying attention. I usually just turn K band off in the metro area.

If you move to Phoenix proper, I can't tell you the last time I've seen active speed enforcement in town.. literally years. The department is way understaffed (by 400 officers, last I heard) and I think they have other stuff to worry about.

I'd be more worried about the heat.. I think Phoenix set a record last year for something like 40+ consecutive days where it hit 110 or higher. I think the hottest day last year was 119 or 120. It's usually a rude awakening for people coming from cooler climates. But it's a dry heat as they say. I'll take 115 and dry anyday over 90 and 90% humidity like when I lived in Ft Lauderdale. Benefit of the heat is that most motorcycle cops disappear off the streets by 9 or 10 am because it's too damn hot for speed enforcement.

Come to WI, sponge. No automated ticket cams, fairly high tolerance over PSL and non-signator to the driver's license compact which means no points for out-of-state tickets.

I haven't been to AZ in ages but I recall there being speed cams plastered along 101.

No freaking way! Way too cold. I'm only looking at moving to places where it rarely gets below freezing in the winter, or places where winter lasts 2 months or less. I've been in a few places and most of them the winter just drags on and makes me want to drive off a cliff. Phoenix area seems really pleasant weather-wise. Hot, dry weather doesn't bother me a bit.

And thanks to everyone who's given input so far. Really helpful :hfive:

A year or so ago a police impersonator lit up that yellow mustang and tried to pull it over. He got a big surprise.

I wouldn't put too much weight into that list... I found it just as easy to get tagged in Wyoming and Montana as I did Iowa.

As a resident of the state. Lots of 35.5 I/o, kband, 34.7 here and there, laser in the metro area, they like to hide behind the shrubs in the median.
