Radar is used commonly as a moving trap. Yes they can sneak up behind you. Laser detection alone is mostly pointless. By the time you detect laser the officer already has your speed.
Would I be ok with a uniden dfr8 just to get started?

I would step up to dfr9 to get the GPS lockouts. However... it might be wise to hold off purchasing a detector til we know what the new speed on green cameras operate on. If it's low power MRCD type then you will need a higher end detector. I'm sure you have seen or heard about the new extortion system coming this summer.

Yes I have, I'm curious how many of those are actually going to be implemented and how they will work.

I also feel they will probabaly cause accidents as people slam on their brakes at the intersections when they notice them.

I'm also curious how they will stand up in court and how easy it will be to disguise your plate from the ir cameras

Welcome to the forum from another Vancouver member. Great advise above from other local members. Note; dragon eye is not the only laser used in greater vancouver, there are other units tougher to defend against which are increasing. For RD’s, Uniden just dropped the price again for the dfr9 which is a great unit for the price and very strong against Ka 34.7 which is common here and
would serve you fine but as @Run4donut mentioned, speed cameras are installed and set to be turned on in June. They will probably be low K but we dont know yet. The good news is the cameras are stationary so we know where they are. Uniden’s top RD R7 was recently released and adds arrows, auto lockouts and more features that you may not need. Radenso Pro is also a great unit. For LJ to defend against DE you need 3 heads up front. We recently tested my TMG 3 head system (only front shots here) and it was very good against the DE gun we used. Alp is currently the benchmark system but here in Canada is comes at huge premium price. TMG, with a distributor now in Canada, is new to north america and a good alternative and improving all the time. It is offered at a lower price point and definitely should be considered.

Thanks for all the great info! Is there a local website or local dealer where I could price out the tmg system?

Thanks guys! It looks like I could pickup that system and a third head for approaching what I'd need for a basic alp system.

Would it be worth it to start off with two heads and run that until getting the third head or would I be better off not chancing it?

I also like what their website has to say about how their system works and coming from a military background, I was thinking there had to be a better way than just copying the firmware as they come out.

Do you guys know where tmg ships from and would I be able to just pick up the device locally when the time comes?

Thanks for all the help you all have been a great help. Honestly I'm the kind of person if I get caught speeding for real I'll just apologize and admit my wrong doings and move on and never considered myself aggressive enough of a driver to worry about counter measures, but after getting screwed over by an inaccurate reading and basically being laughed at in court and barely even listened to I'm not making it easy for that to happen to me again Haha.

With regards to TMG, contact triple turbo the cnd tmg distributor. You can send him a PM here on RDF. He is in Alberta I think...

Could you start with 2 heads..yes I guess so...but you will vulnerable on certain guns...if you go that route, make sure you pull cables for 3 heads so you have it ready for the future...
