Kinda dumb if you ask me. There are other things on the screen that stay on constantly that could also get burnt in. Now if “speed” were the only thing that was staying constant, I could understand why they’d have it go on/off. Oh well.
I agree. Normally I use Dark Mode, so that reduces burn-in. If I need to use the compass feature (or speed), I use Auto Mode. That seems to work on Dim (one notch below Bright) in the daytime, and Dimmer at night. That works ok for my needs.

Anyone else having issues on downloading the updates for an R7 from Uniden's website? Everything downloaded except the .bin files. Finally got it to work after the 10th try....

Which update version?
It was for the latest version but it appears the issue worked itself out. Maybe from their end on the website...

Thanks for putting this together and maintaining it! Very helpful!!

I’d like to suggest a modification of the following outstanding issue:

Auto display brightness errs on the side of being dim, especially with the detector mounted high.
I have my detector mounted just under my rearview mirror and it seems to me that the auto brightness works, but it’s working in reverse. The display seems to get dim when it’s bright outside and gets bright when it’s dark outside. Should be the other way around. Is it me?

A separate request I’d like to see, that I haven’t seen mentioned, is a way to adjust the brightness on alerts when running in dark mode, which I prefer at night. It goes from complete darkness to full bright when I get an alert! I wish I could tone that down a little.

Thanks again!

Is it possible you have the auto dim settings incorrect? Make sure the brightness is set to “auto” and then in settings, look for “auto dim setting.” Change “bright level” to how bright you want to allow the display to get when it’s light outside, and change “dim level” to how dim you want to allow the display to get when it gets darker or dark outside.

For your other request, this is already a feature. Look for “dark mode” in settings.

Thanks, Matt. I thought I had checked everything but sounds like I may not have.

I think many get confused with the "darkmode" brightness setting and the "autodim" brightness setting.

The "darkmode" setting is to set the brightness level the RD goes to when it detects a signal and lights up.

The "autodim" is what it is. You set the brightness level for daylight and night time. Here's the caveat. If your night time brightness is set to "darkmode" and it gets a signal the RD will light up at the level you set in the "darkmode" setting. In that respect the two settings interact.

It's been 6 months since an update....
A bit long for a flagship device... What's up With uniden?
Too many irons in the fire or just not attentive?

Before someone gets defensive... Think about it... Lots of money should interpret into great support.

This ain't some crappy piece of junk?

This isn't an attack on you however, I think a lot of people are very spoiled right now by uniden.
We're so used to them sending out quick updates That we don't know how to handle when one takes a little longer.
If you really want quick updates buy an escort...lol... See how that works out for you

Agreed. What also can be confusing is that the auto dim settings don’t show up in the menu unless you have “auto” selected as your brightness. It states this in the manual, but who reads manuals these days? I do personally, as I like to read them front to back and perform each action with the device as I’m reading. Helps me to understand better and remember things easier.

That’s exactly what it was for me. Didn’t realize had to be in auto mode to see the auto dim settings. Thanks again. Worked like a charm.
Another related question on the auto dim, if I may. It seems to gradually get dimmer as ambient light decreases. If I set the auto dim “dim” setting to dark, would it gradually get dimmer until it goes completely to dark mode?

From my understanding, that’s exactly how it works, and then as @leesrt said, when you get an alert, the display will light up to the brightness you have “dark mode” set at in settings (bright, dim, dimmer). I use dark mode 24/7 to help prevent screen burn-in, so I have no seat time relying on the light sensor personally.

Hi Everyone,

This is a great discussion on auto-dim, but let's take it to another thread in forum. We want to reserve this thread for status updates ONLY for the firmware releases for the R7. Thanks for your understanding.

I'm in agreement with you, man. I feel like Uniden came into the market with a big splash, grabbed some cash, and ran out the back door.

Well it is easy to be spoiled with good service and bc some other vendors have bad service, this is why I decided to go with uniden for the very first time!

But this thread is pointless to continue if uniden isn't peeking in and monitoring and at least commenting from time to time to show they are considering and working on our ideas.

Otherwise they lower themselves to the "grab ur money then go" mentality that has destroyed other vendors image.

Just wondering?
I've been quite patient.. Especially after promises auto-lockouts of which all posts have been removed. Opps!

Now they're afraid to mention anything!
