I always had good luck with the Whistler suction cups. They should be direct replacement, and they're less expensive too. :)

I agree! Whistler always has had the best suction cups! If you have to take them down, you can boil them with water and put them up wet and they hang on like a pitbull!

All I know is I love my R7 way way better than my R3. From the ambient light sensors to the arrow awareness, etc. No scientific studies here, however, I returned 2 R3's after getting my first last year as I never got the crazy range others were reporting on any of them. However, my early production R7 (sn in the low 400's) seems to crush my old R3's in range with both K & KA band. It's really noticeable. And my R7 is quieter as well with the new BSM notch filter. Love it and feel it's well worth the extra $200 (though I got the Best Buy protection plan and just traded in my old R3 and paid the difference which is pretty awesome - I love BB too!) Got a new BB protection plan with my new R7 as well.
I don't know if the R7 is worth $600, but I pretty much agree with you. My R7 is definitely better than my R3. I always thought my R3 lacked in range compared to what others were posting here and my R7 seems to prove it. Maybe I'm wrong, since I've only had the R7 going on two weeks now, but so far, the R7 is impressive compared to my R3.

As for BSM, even without the notch filter, it's quieter than my R3 on fw 1.48. I'd say it's about the same as when my R3 was on fw 1.37. With the notch, it's definitely quieter. It's not that I don't get PT's with the notch, it's that when it does PT, it doesn't seem to latch and I have to be pretty close to the offender for a PT. Plus not every offender will PT. I sure hope they add the notch filter to the next R3 firmware, unless they have a better BSM solution.

There is so much butthurt and denial over this radar detector, it blows my mind. I really don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect better consistency across the small sample size of units represented on this board for $600. Maybe im just too old. Maybe ive been spoiled by valentine’s product.
I agree with u 100%, which is why I'm returning it and not exchanging it. As I've stated on the other thread, I truly think there is a quality control or manufacturing issue.

could u just imagine samsung releasing a phone that said “secure phone calls” (spectre undetectable) on the box and then 1 out of 3 users’ (vortex test) phone calls were easily hacked and listened to!? holy smokes theyd never live it down

so, I just got my 2nd Uniden R7 since my first one did not have the range of my R3. The 2nd one also seems to be not as “hot” as my R3.

Both are mounted high up in the windshield in the same spot as where my r3 was. One thing that I noticed is the rear horn of the r7 is more sensitive than the front.

Are we all drinking the R7 kool-aide or is it truly better than the R3?

It is hard to compare the two as one also has a rear antenna. Testing found the R7 to have slightly better range in some circumstances but not significant. Most of us didn't upgrade for better range alone...

I actually would be ok with similar range. But it seems less range via front sensor

I mentioned before:
Loved the R3, miss its more compact size and price.
Love the R7 more, slight improvement in sensitivity, maybe better BSM filtering but maybe just I'm better at the settings for areas now.
Arrows have become more valuable with time and encounters. I underestimated their value and entertainment until longer travels in strange lands. Even the disinterested family look now to see where the threat is coming from. Spot the LEO first game....
Size of the R7 is still a downer to me, as I would like a bit more discrete and easy to pocket when getting off the motorbike/vehicle.
Pro-M is perfect for the wife to take in her purse when parked.
R3 is sized right on the edge of convenience.

Would agree but with 2 antennas the unit had to get bigger maybe future units can have 1 for both directions. A feature on the R3 I miss on the R7, is the mute button on the front, it was so convenient...

Ive had my R3 for a couple years now.. Ive went from Version 1.30 to 1.37 to 1.46, 1.48 and finally to 1.50 and in the mean time kept checking on the latest and greatest R7. Dont get me wrong , i was ready to buy this Arrow detector but slowly but surely, the more i read/heard im all set. The R3 is amazing period.. You better bring something way better than the R7 with arrows (Lol) at $600 to get me to switch from this $300 detector. The only one at this point that i have my eye on is Radenso, i think i will give them a try next time if Uniden cant come out with something a bit better... I will not buy an R7 and ive looked at them extensively

R3 is the best bang for the buck detector Imo.
Just great all round at great price point vs. performance and feature set.
If Pro-M was priced the same then it would be a harder spot to hold, but close.
I prefer my R7 now but was developing an ulcer thinking the money wasn't worth upgrading from R3, but no regrets now.
R7 is better and more feature rich.
But the price to play worthwhile is up to the consumer.
