So I was on my motorcycle going from St George, UT to Vegas. Drive I have made a many times with my trusty Magnum running.
Prior to this drive I think I can count on one hand the number of Laser alerts in the 4+ years I have had it. On this drive I had over 30...
It got really annoying.
Seems most of them were in the canyon just past the AZ boarder.

Anyone have an idea what could have been causing this?

I get laser falses on my V955 on bright sunny days only. Never on my GX65 or R3. Laser diode may be too sensitive. Maybe a firmware update might fix it.

This was happening during the day and at night.
It's never done this before on the same drive or others. It was really odd. I'll check if it has a fw update available. It had the latest when I picked it up.

Try a second vehicle just to rule out electrical noise, but in all likelihood you're seeing a hardware fault in the STI. I had the same thing happen with mine and had to send it in for repair. Some component in the laser section drifts out of tolerance over time and they have to re-adjust the receiver gain to get it lined out.

Someone correct me if ive misunderstood but, havent there been reports of certain phones causing strange falses to certain detectors. Maybe your phone position in the car was contributing.

My R3 gave the odd laser false while riding my motorcycle.
Only when I had my Galaxy S8 phone mounted on the handlebars next to the detector.
What other items do you have nearby or recently changed your setup somehow?
I'm also thinking all my bright lights and chrome could send a reflection into the laser sensor, or scatter off another source.
But the phone is my main culprit.

I don't remember if I had my pixel at the time. At this point its moot. I gave the Magnum to a buddy and picked up an R7. Now I am working on how I am going to mount it to the bike...

See the motorcycle section for the magnetic ram mount and pictures.
My R7 and others there for viewing.

My WB Mag still false like yours after 2 trips to their service center. I pretty much gave up and turn then damn feature off. Cost benefits vs time/shipping cost isn't worth it for me.

See any ufo’s?

I’d just turn the laser off. You have only so much real estate on the bike to position things. Get an Adaptive “Parkin sensor” system for the laser.

How do you turn the laser function off? Thanks.

Could also very likely be laser cruise control. I used to get plenty of false laser alerts on my V1 from Mazda's and Volvos..

My retired Bel STi magnum started to do the same thing, was a year or so after I sent the unit it for repair because it was no longer picking up K and KA band. All of a sudden it was getting laser false's like crazy and eventually after alerting to laser it would get stuck on alerting laser until I restarted it, but it would eventually do the same thing before you knew it. I handed the unit over to my dad, but have to leave laser disabled as it will drive you insane with the false's.
