Just received my Uniden R7 today to replace the R3. So far, me like...
Love the arrows, hate the power button location.

Honestly I love the suction cup...you have option of both the old way of doing things (2 small suction cups) and the new way...one large suction cup with some sticky thingy to it. I mean I don't blame them since the R7 has some heft to it.

I am having bit of a sensitivity issue on mine...so far it seems to be great at detecting BSM and K band but kind of lacking at 34.7 detection....but I have to drive some more in order to see if that's true.

It kind of sucks that most of the constables I encounter here, run CO while driving (they don't park). So I can't do a 180 and swap detectors in order to test range (I don't own a Radar Gun so I have to use the LEO).

Actually, you just gave me an idea. I'm going to leave my R3 in the car so when I see a stationary LEO or K band sign, I'm going to switch and test range.

Do you know of an app that can measure distance on the iOS for this kind of testing?

Nope...but you can take a picture of the first detect (or if you have a dashcam mark it) and then go back to google Earth and just match the images.

There has to be an App! How do Vortex and others do all their testing real-time?

Just thought I would share this.

Drove around this morning using Waze to find the radar traps and I must say, the R7 is very similar to my R3; although a bit nosier on K band. I was able to detect Ka band (I think it was 35.473) on a straight road with a number of hills at 2.6 miles (when I heard the first beep). That's pretty close to what I had detected on my R3 (same location but different Ka band) when I got my R3 about a year ago. So far ... very impressed and the rear detection is pretty good too. Also, this was with Band segmentation on. Thanks

I think my R7's rear detection is bugged or it might be set to subjective definition of a nice rear. For example it's 78f here and I drove past some very very nice rears and the detector stayed silent. So I think it's either set on THHICK or my definition of rear is wrong.

Per Vortex's latest testing post: "To measure everything, I used V1Driver's GPS logger to give me a distance to the radar gun in realtime."

There’s the Fast Measurement OBD tool that Vortex, Dukes and myself have been using.

Also there an IOS app called Planometer that I used. I spring for the pro version due to all the testing I’ve been doing, but by far the best is the FMT. Pricey, but cuts down the testing time dramatically and deadly accurate.

Thanks, guys but apps like these I can do with a free measuring map app that I have. I actually use it for business when I need to find out how far each property is from each other. Also, the V1 logger is hardware, so I don't want to buy a piece of hardware when I'm not going to be using it as much.

What I'm looking for is a GPS app that I can sit in the car by the Speed sign and hit reset to 0, so when I start driving away it's logging my distance (by feet, yards, miles, etc) as I drive away. This way I can get an accurate distance from the sign as it fades away instead of looking at the trip calculator on my dash.

V1Driver's GPS logger is just functionality built into the V1Driver app, not hardware. If you already have an app, why are you asking about this?

With all due respect....what are you talking about?
Is anyone here fluent in tempnexus speak?

LOL! 80F here in Phoenix today and I understand what you mean...
My other "detector" gets noisy when I pay attention to those other rears you mentioned.

Do you have Ka filter turned on? Turn it off and I'll bet you'll get WAY longer detections.

Because the app measures the map. I need an app that can give me real-time distance as I drive away from the Selected reference point or drive towards the Selected point.
