Hello RDForum! Just got my first car and after a few close encounters with :police3: hiding in the bushes figured I should arm myself with a radar detector :). I'm looking at the DFR9 since it's on sale for $199 thanks to Vortex but also considering better performing models like the R3/R7/Pro-M. I really like the small form factor of the Radenso and its BSM filtering, but from what I've read Seattle mostly uses Ka 33.8 so maybe I can just turn off K band lol. Arrows are pretty cool too so the R7 is appealing but I'm not sure it's worth 3x the cost of the DFR9, especially given that the BSM filtering is probably similar. Radenso hurry up and make one with arrows already! :bump:

Welcome! Where in Seattle do you drive? The WSP uses mostly 33.8, but local officers in different parts of town use the other Ka frequencies too. K band is in use in a few places around town, but much less frequently.

The R3 would be a nice choice.

Welcome from another person a bit south from you. I'm sure Vortex will have updated settings for the R7 soon on his YT Channel (hint, hint) that will be optimally set up for Seattle area I'm sure! There's another thread that just started on settings by state so check that out...maybe Vortex will update that for us!!! Hint, hint!!

Anyway Welcome to The Forum I'm relearning so much myself it's great to be here!

I live in Seattle proper so the bulk of my driving is in the city but also the occasional trip up to Lynnwood, Bellevue, Remond, and down South to SeaTac.

Ah gotcha. The WSP runs Ka band on the highways, but I haven't seen any speed enforcement in downtown Seattle. Seattle PD doesn't even have radar guns in their cars. They're too busy dealing with homeless people and drunk people...

Bellevue and Redmond both use Ka. I've seen Bellevue TSS's and Redmond run PL3/PL4's, so laser protection would be helpful too.

I'm not sure about Lynnwood itself, but up north in the Lynnwood/Bothell/Everett region in general, I see all three Ka bands. Someone told me last week that they spotted K band in the area as well, but that's super rare. I have seen K band in Kirkland and Issaquah.

I'm not sure about SeaTac. The only time I head down there is to go to the airport. :)

Also should mention I usually drive at night so the arrows of the R7 seem awfully appealing. Would this be a good choice for my situation? I've also read rumors about a new V1 coming out soon so maybe I'll hold off as well :)

Yeah the arrows are handy. When driving on the highway with the R3, I'm still pretty lost at figuring out when I pass an officer driving the other direction. The arrows are a help with situations like that.

Welcome to RDF! All great choices. Arrows aren’t necessary, but when they really come in handy, you’ll be glad to have them.

Maybe it's the paternal motherly instinct in me but it frightens me a bit that the you just got your first car, have had several close calls which implies you're already heavy on the throttle, and the first thing you want to buy is a detector. GULP!!! :omg: Spend the money on an upgraded sounds system, drive like you want to live past the age of 25 for a while and then when you've developed some driving experience, the muscle memory and motor skills to deal with high speed situations etc, buy a detector and speed all you want...

Regardless, welcome to the board, you'll have a blast here, pay no attention to me (just give me a heads start if we leave anyplace together for a bit) oh... and buy a V1, of if you can't get one, a R7 till V1's are in stock. ;)
