This morning I was talking to the guys at BuyDig about the DFR9 since it did really well in my latest test. It's normally $329 which I feel is a little high and I asked if they were going to be doing any discounts on it.

They said that through the weekend, they'll do a deal for the detector for $199. At that price, it's basically a no brainer, IMHO. The deal is good through 4/15 and there's a limit of 2 DFR9's per order.

You'll need to use the coupon code "VORTEX" to get the sale.

@UnidenSupport I know the new dfr8 and dfr9 are just a cosmetic change. but can you shine some light on why the dfr9 did really well on vortex test regarding 35 5 and 33.8 when the dfr7 was not so good with those two bands

great deal! beside that, I highly recommend purchasing through buydig due to great customer service. I called their customer service and within a minute I was speaking to an actual person in US.

So I went over this pretty thoroughly in the video, but I don't know if I covered it as much in the forum post. I'd have to go back and reread it.

The results on 33.8 and 35.5 were pretty terrain limited and most of the detectors went off in the same spot. Because of the nature of the course, it makes it harder to see the differences in sensitivity between detectors. This is a common reason why more sensitive detectors won't always necessarily get longer range detections than a less sensitive detector in every instance.

This is also one of the main reasons why testers always stress looking at multiple tests and not just one test if you want to draw a complete conclusion.

Considering I got my R1 for roughly the going rate of the DFR9... I’d rather have the R1. But if you need GPS it’s a good choice. I have an LRD950 as well.

Sorry, they changed it to make the discount only work with my affiliate link now and I'm asking them to disable that. It should be fixed in a sec. :)

It does mean that I won't get anything if the deal gets picked up on sites like Slickdeals, but I really don't want to be using this forum for my own personal financial gain with affiliate links which is why I'm asking them not to do that for this.

Update: Done.

It is flashed... that doesn’t change the hardware though or what it says on the bottom of the detector.

I run my DFR9 90% of the time in my DD. It really is a solid unit from all of the testing and my personal experience.

Great job setting this up @Vortex. Thank you.

Vortex answered this, but it is possible for there to be discrepancies between the dfr8/9 and dfr6/7 due to firmware differences. At this point I don't know of any, but firmware plays a huge part in how all of these devices function.

My dad already had a DFR7 I got him, but he’s getting tired f the BSMs. I imagine the DFR9 wouldn’t be much if any improvement, right?

I've not tested it, but I imagine they are the same. if one were to change in the future, its more likely the 9 would.

I think 9 has GPS so it allows for quiet ride. What BRD said in the R9 thread. If you set the qiuet ride to 80mph than it will only alert you to K with a single beep. Meanwhile KA alerts would not be affected.

The DFR7 has GPS as well. Does it not have QuietRide?

Been patently waiting for this price drop. I expecting it to only drop to $240-ish so this is great news to me so I ordered me a DFR9 for the same price I paid for my DFR7. Thanks VORTEX & BuyDig for making this RD more affordable and thank you Uniden for making a great product :)
