Do you have some specific features that you would like added (within hardware constraints of course)?

Because there hasn't been a need for a firmware update for it
It’s the difference between, ‘It works, ship it’ and ‘We’ve made advanced in the art and are passing it down to our non-flag ship detectors’.

I have to say, mine has been a stellar unit straight out of the box! Quiet when it needs to be and loud impressively early when it needs to be!

Can you be more specific about what "art" you are referring to?

The Pro M and RC M XP and SP are completely different hardware platforms, so you can't exactly pass things down like that. Sensitivity and BSM filtering are largely hardware limited on most detectors. Which was why I was asking for specific features that people would like added to this platform.

Don't take offense, your question wasn't stupid.
I think the point that Jon is trying to make is that the detector doesn't have any issues that could be fixed with a firmware update. Don't get lulled into the thought that updates are necessarily good things. Usually they are to fix things that aren't quite right. Now, if you can think of something that they should add, and it could be implemented via a firmware update, Jon seems to be saying that they'd entertain the idea.

Every electronic device eventually reaches a point of maturity where there are no more features to add that are possible with the hardware and there are no reported problems. The SP is approaching/reached such a point.

Jon - I’m pretty sure you have brain storming sessions in which you huddle the team and talk about ‘how can we be innovative’. No one sits on their laurels in any business but your the expert and I’m not...
Case in point, when the R7 came out with user adaptive lockout / marker settings where you can increase the number of lockouts by decreasing markers, I see that as an advance in the state of the art. Some one was thinking outside the box.
Yes at some point a design becomes strapped by the constraints of the original parameters and there just isn’t capacity to move on. That’s why newer designs have changes built into them. Faster processors, more ram, different architecture. You learn from the constraints of earlier models.
And facing the fact that continuing development on older units doesn’t generate revenue the same way selling the newer latest and greatest unit does...
My point is, customers appreciate that their devices haven’t been abandoned. A point you are aware of since you instituted the ProSe upgrade policy. I’m certain that everyone that participated in the upgrades are very grateful and brand loyal.
If your team had Eureka moment and figured out a way to completely block BSM’s, would you pass the new algorithms back to the older detectors assuming the hardware could handle them? Or Just say ‘that’s water over the dam’ ?

Probably could have written this better but put 60 hrs in this week & have hit the wall...
And you don’t have to answer every post.
It’s always easier to not be in the drivers seat and be a semi-informed debutant throwing peanuts from the cheap seats.

Brainstorming: I think I’ve mentioned this before. The one thing you don’t have is a remote mute button. You’re limited by the power cord being a barrel. But, if you made a box that sent out a tone and put the tone on the power line, it could ride on the DC to the detector. One tone would mute, two presses (two tones) could lock out. A capacitor could pass the tone pulse to the detector without changing hardware. You’ve already sandwiched a widget into the detector that works some K band magic but is there room for any more components?
Outside the box thinking...

And if you really want to get clever, the detector could send a different tone down to the box for an alert light. Power is easy, detect power flow to the detector.
