Walking to class this morning and came across this by the SAIT main campus. Any idea what the motive is for this?

I actually saw one of these in Irvine, CA two weeks ago, I'm not sure what it is for though. Hopefully one of the Sages stop by.

Traffic camera. They record footage so that green light length and stuff like that can be adjusted to make traffic flow better.

Gun shot triangulation equipment? Supposed they placed them around Chicago and other cities. How is that working for them?

Just kidding.

traffic flow monitoring of Harleys?

That braided cable looks so corroded. It has to break sometime. :) I like the “free take me sign” sign posted idea.

All over NYC. Looks like it records sound levels but not 100% certain.

Nenshi and iveson I swear share the same brain

Wouldn’t surprise me if I was a sound recording device use as a “pilot” project to later implement excessive vehicle sound tickets (don’t get me wrong I’m not saying I’m against it. ****ing Harley riders bikes are damn loud ass)

But it seems like if one city is doing something. The other city must do the same. If those are sound recording devices. It just seems u guys are doing to smarter and more discretely than the way our mayor did it. And that was having a digital readout of the sound dB levels so ppl would intentionally make more noise to get the “high score” which resulted in major civilian complaints which caused them to turn off the signs

That box looks like another good spot to apply a "FREE take me" Sticker. :chord:

Edmonton implemented Sound based Photo Radar for exhaust and excessive noise... Not sure it worked out so well there.

Maybe YYC is doing the same.

No it didn’t work cause we all floored it past them and residents complained about all the extra noise at 02:00 haha

Actually no we never. We are in the first testing phase of the program. Which to identify how much of an excessive vehicle noise problem there is.

If it’s deemed there is a problem (which I’m sure they will deem it as). Phase 2 will be rolled out and actually start taking photos. If that is successful. Then tickets will be mailed out.

I don’t care because all my cars and bikes are stock so if by slim chance I do get ticketed. I fight it and win

I don’t have a problem with this the excessive noise comes Harley/cruisers bikes. They don’t think. It’s loud and always a lawn mower is louder. Sure a lawnmower is loud. But I don’t hear the guy mowing his lawn a block away. I hear bikes easily Kms away. In the spring summer. I’m generally working in the garage on Saturdays morning. I live close to the Harley dealership but not next door. I can easily hear the harleys rolling in or out of the dealership. It’s gross

You should care even if you win. Time is not free, time is worth more to me than any amount of money.

If you think the sounds of Harley's are "gross", why would you choose to live even remotely close to a Harley dealership? Not like they just opened shop, pretty sure both the north and south side Harley dealerships have been open for more than 25 years.

Nope they opened up well after. The Harley shop used to be on 121st and yellowhead. Their recent move to 70 ish st and yellowhead move was within the last 10 years or so

And again. I don’t live next door to it. I live blocks and blocks away. The fact that I can hear a Harley ripping down the gretzky and then onto yellowhead and then to the dealership certainly says something about how loud harleys are.

****, that Harley dealership is has events for ppl to bring in their bikes and rev the **** out of them just so others can hear the exhaust to make a decision on which pipe to get. It’s disgusting.

I have a bus route in front of my house. I can hear a bus coming. But once it a block or 2 away. I don’t hear it.

Actually not true at all. My buddy lives out on acreage outside the city. And sometimes I go out for bbq and believe me. The sounds of loud bikes are common in the summer.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind when ppl modified their toys for more sound but the Harley/cruiser crowds feels the need to make as much noise as possible. It has been a lot better since they have introduced the motorcycle noise bylaw. But there are still lots of idiots that feel it’s awesome to be excessively loud. My buddy got married last summer at the royal Glenora club. Literally couldn’t hear parts of the ceremony because loud ass bikes were going by on river valley road.

How is it “not true at all”? There are plenty of places outside of the city that are completely quiet. Maybe your buddy shouldn’t have bought an acreage near a highway.

He is out by tolfield. Have to a take dirt road about 3km to get there. It’s because of Edmonton motorcycle noise bylaw. So bikes outside the city like ft sask or Sherwood park, etc where there is no bylaw on noise. They avoid the city and use roads outside the city. Ex before groups would meet Edmonton groups and head out. But now they meet outside the city.

The (control?) box is from Scout Technologies and is for traffic data so I think measurement of sound (after seeing the picture above of the horn) in nearby traffic is underway and with a little more discretion than Edmonton did with the scoreboards, lol.

Oops, just found out it really is a video capture for traffic data. Very cool.
