Howdy Folks,

I've been running an R3, Advanced Mode, K band 30%, TSF on, K filter on and was encountering a lot of BSM alerts. I tried city mode and it has alleviated the problem by 80-90%. Today I drove past a Honda SUV, saw the yellow light on the side view mirror come on and the R3 was silent. As for range, I encounter a number of low-powered speed signs on my commute to work and the R3 is alerting at the same points in City mode that it did in Advanced. If you haven't tried City mode, give it a shot!

Odd. Why would City mode work better than Advanced 30%? Is there a bug with Advanced mode?

If I remember correctly, City Mode dials K band down to 18%.

Thanks guys! For some reason I thought Advanced allowed lower sensitivity. This is good to know.

Something weird is going on with the sensitivity cut back as a percentage. These Unidens are clearly not cutting back k band anywhere near what the numbers suggest.

Are they perhaps burying their bsm filter algorithms in these k band cutbacks? Then by making the user dial back k to 30% or 18% making their customers think, "wow look how good this thing is even at xx%!" May also be their way of making sure their users are aware of the fact that filtering bsm's is going to result in a range penalty?

I have two vehicles out with R3 and both run city mode and it works amazing with BSM. Mines so quiet I have to make sure the light is lit on the cig lighter.. Love it!

Ps one is on the newest firmware and the other is running the one before..( just too lazy to update )

The test done in Intermediate sections proves otherwise. Filtering doesn't seem to hinder the reactivity and the range is still plenty enough. I might go to 50% if on highway like roads, but you have to remember that these detectors are long range detectors, putting chains on them will not make them dangerous.

My question is, at 50% are you really seeing k range cut in half, i.e. 1 mile down from 2 miles?

It depends on your location. I believe BS69 got a 1.1 mile K band detection with either city mode or 30% K band. Granted it was an easier location, but I think all the test have shown you can reduce the beast and still be protected. If you are really worried, then you can have it at 50-60 percent and still get really good range.

30% w/ knarrow, k fitler & TSF is working well. but going to try city now... Thanks.

It was City mode, but an easy detection scenario.

I also run city mode in my state but when visiting possible K band states like PA, etc. I go to advanced which is last I remember set @ 70%. Of course it gets ALOT noiser but noise is still better then a ticket, etc! ;)

I’ve been saying this for months. I run my R3 on city, TSF, K narrow, 1.37. I get ZERO BSM.

I run my R1 in city mode whenever I head into AZ, and it's not perfect. I still get BSM falses ~50-100 ft away, but it's pretty easy to decipher whether or not it is a legitimate threat.

hi, I commute daily in bay area, R3 with 1.37 got zero BSM vs 1.48. I’m new R3 owner and currently undecided which firmware have longer range with KA band. Thanks

I didn’t notice any difference with KA between 1.37 or 1.48. I didn’t test with equipment, just my gut. If your enjoying 1.48 I would recommend sticking with it. It has a couple of cool features that 1.37 doesn’t.

So you are saying if I live in PA (which only uses K band) I shouldn't use city mode. I was using K set at 70% with TSF on. K Narrow. I would like to cut down on the BSM alerts but of course leave enough sensitivity for real radar. Today I am moving to the R7

If you want any kind of decent K band range no I wouldn't run city mode! :)
