I'll just drive to Jackson and get mine since its about an hour and a half from me. Tom said it can't be shipped but nothing about in person pick ups! I'm just happy that mine will be delivered before Good Friday. I'm leaving for Arizona and want to run it in my rental then.
Yeah, I live 20 minutes from him and he said no pickups when the R3 came out. Knowing I have to wait 2 days for shipping when I can get it in 20 minutes is annoying. Oh well.

I understand why the V1 keeps coming up, since it’s still the premier detector with arrows. But even ignoring the 10% discount on new returned units, saddling the V1 with a bunch of unnecessary accessories isn’t really right. Why include a case, for example? Like most people, the cases for my Unidens end up just taking up space on a shelf in a closet. Unless you’re going to also tack on the price of hardwires and visor mounts and stuff to the R7’s tally, it doesn’t make sense. V1 + BTLE is all that’s required and delivers a higher “level” of operation than R7, though not the same range. Add $10 for V1Driver if you’re feeling cheeky. $415 after discount, or $460 without.
I'll be the first to say I do not 100% understand every V1 accessory option, but based my 'quote' off of what people seem to recommend to potential new V1 purchasers.

It seems that SAVVY is pushed for the low speed muting aspect connected to the OBDII and the V1Connect for the BT connection. How many V1 users here do not use SAVVY? As for the case, I was trying to be equal for what items you receive. You can not compare one stripped out model car vs another fully loaded brand model. I actually have been using my 360 case a lot for when I travel, so to me having the case is important, and would cost me more $$ out of pocket if it was not included (like with the R7).

I am not bias. I do not own either of these units, nor have a pre-order in as of yet. I'm objectively comparing the two units price wise to get the same feature and options across the board.

It is nice that V1 allows you to itemize your accessories based on your needs/wants though to give the option to reduce the cost as much as possible.

Very few own or use Savvy. The apps handle that function for you in the background, and thy have done so for quite some time. The only thing you need that doesn’t already come in the box is the Bluetooth connector.

And the V1 comes with a much higher quality cigarette lighter adapter, a hardwire kit, a windshield mount, a visor mount, and other stuff I’m forgetting. I previously mentioned visor mounts and hardwires because those are things that are either not included (but heavily used) in the R7 box like the hardwire kit V1 or don’t even exist, like an R7 visor mount.

I don’t know how much that kind of thing influence buying decisions. But while the V1 is far more expandable than the R7 (with stuff like concealed displays and remote audio adapters), piling on extra stuff onto the tally to try to inflate the price isn’t a proper comparison. If you need the range, there’s no amount of money you can add to the V1 to make it on par with the R7. If the previously excellent range remains sufficient, the R7 might not be the best choice for some.

piling on extra stuff onto the tally to try to inflate the price isn’t a proper comparison.
So, a realistic cost would look for like:

V1 - $400
V1connection - $50
Case - $30 (for someone like me who travels with their RD - does not apply to everyone)
V1driver - $10 (for those of us who have iOS and don't want a 2nd device)

Total = $490 ($460 without the case for those who do not wish).

Once you look at spending $500 people tend to really ask themselves 'is that extra $100+ worth it?'. Then they dig into the research, and probably stumble across RDF. Some will pay more for the extra range, others will pay more for the simplicity of the not having accessories. Others will opt for the V1 due to its strong quality heritage. People seem to want 'simplicity' in a world already over run with technology though.

And to get back OT.....as for the 4.15 date I am surprised Amazon is showing them in for 3-5 weeks, even from 3rd party vendors. I wonder if they all of a sudden will change their date when the units arrive. I have ordered stuff from Amazon that has said 4 weeks out, then two days later received a shipping notice. They must have shipped the units to BB a long ways in advance if others are not getting theirs for another almost 2 weeks to ship out. I'm sure BB was wondering why their RD section of their website was getting so much traffic recently!

All the best buy units were accidentally shipped as Beta units and appear to have many bugs. Only items shipped from BRD after 4/15 are the production units. Return unit to bestbuy for a refund....hahahahaha :cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader:problem solved.

All interesting thoughts. Over the years I have bought things from Best Buy quite a few times. They have always been good to deal with.
I've had good experiences buying physical products from BB but there is one caveat concerning the business. Don't suck for the calibration service they push so hard when you purchase a TV unless you can get them to do it under $100 or so. As one of only a few hundred THX Certified Video Calibrators on the planet and the only one in Wisconsin I'll tell you that some of the Geek calibrators are way under qualified and none of them use the proper professional equipment. They tout "perfect picture" yet they don't have spectroradiometers or spectrophotometers to profile the colorimeter meters they use. In the pro world this doesn't fly.

Im in no big hurry. By all means do i wish it was here? Absolutely. Ill stick with Tom. I do feel that this new hard roll out date is by no means "fair". Seems weird to delay shipping longer for those of that preordered. I just wonder if Uniden is using this as a way to get more units made/shipped so that theres more product avaible to the market on the 15th.

I didn’t even know that they did that.

True, but you also have to factor in the cost of buying a whole new R8 or whatever the next model will be, as VR is the only one offering an upgrade program. This has been done to death. Some prefer buying new units, some prefer upgrading existing purchases, and all of it has been thoroughly hashed out before :)
I agree I have a V1 and mine is so far out of date that the cost to upgrade it is the same as buying a new unit (when you include shipping). Uniden has added features via firmware for free to the R3 and is doing so with the R7 (Auto Gps lockouts). Being able to do this for free and at home is a huge advantage that Uniden has over the current Valentine offerings. On top of that Valentine still doesn't make a unit that detects MRCD. I know you can do this with a app provided it is fixed MRCD but still a major disadvantage. Also the last V1 update is over 2 years ago... When I got my V1 it was by far the best detector on the market. Now however you are making lots of compromises for a unit that in my opnion isn't as good as a R1 which can be had for $200. Too bad because I really liked my V1. I like that they are built in America and built well. I also like that they have a upgrade program just wish I could update my own firmware and I think app support is nice.

That’s incorrect and has never been the case. Even the very oldest V1 still only costs $289 to upgrade, and that’s a whole new model they pull off the shelf and ship to you as though you’d ordered a new one entirely. So far I haven’t seen any offer to take my DFR6 off my hands and send me a DFR8 at a significant discount, much less an R1 or R7.

By the time you pay shipping both ways it is pretty close. I did typo that however I should have said close to the same price as a new unit. While I can't send my R3 to uniden I can put it on ebay and get more then $100 for it so the savings from Valentine isn't that big of a deal with the upgrade program...

All,
Please note that this thread is for a discussion of the Uniden R7 release date. If you want to compared features and costs of the V1 to the R7, please start a separate thread. Thanks.

I agree! I'm sticking with BRD as well. No taxes and free shipping! $599.99 vs $649, I think I'll save those $50 for a date night.

I don’t think you can get them at Best Buy early any more anyway, so it may be a moot subject. Here is what Best Buy shows:

Uniden - R7 Radar Detector - Black
Model:UNIDEN R7
SKU:6331615

I'll give my business to BRD any day over Best Buy. Easy choice.
