Yes you're right I did some more digging, I believe that was regarding Uniden's lack of supply during the drought after an overwhelming demand for units. Apologies
Yeah. That’s why to me this pre-order thingy was a disappointment. If you look at this thread, this is how the R series was announced to the world.

The forum and community here did an incredible job testing this series out, explaining it, beta testing, providing feedback to Uniden on what to improve and helping make a better product for everyone!

The first batch was sold through BRD and I assumed because of the relationship there and with the forum and community, brd would truly have the first batch again and sell them ahead of everyone else. That was sorta the expectation (at least for me based on prior history). I remember owning that thing and thinking during the drought, thank god I got in early and have this awesome detector.

So when they sent them to Best Buy first (which I understand Best Buy wasn’t suppose to sell them yet) that was a huge let down in my opinion to the community brd and the rest of beta testers and folks on here. I’m glad we now have a date and can move forward, but think it’s important for everyone to understand the history here, etc.

That is comparing apples to oranges as they say. We are comparing new product pricing, not new to used. You have no warranty with a used product either. So if it fails in the 1st year and you get another used unit you will be as much or more than the R7 would have cost you.

All interesting thoughts. Over the years I have bought things from Best Buy quite a few times. They have always been good to deal with. They price match. Their return policy is good. From what I can tell about what happened here, it is hard to blame Best Buy for anything. I guess you could get mad at Uniden if you want to get mad at someone but they are just trying to get their hot product out and sell as many as they can. They probably could have handled this better but then I have screwed up enough things in my time on the planet that I hesitate to point a lot of fingers. It does seem like people here though are taking advantage of what this forum has to offer and that we here know about Best Radar Detector. Even in my short time reading the forum I can see that Best Radar Detector does quite a bit around here, so it just seems like I would expect the people here to support that company and buy from him. And even a couple weeks is not much at all. In the scheme of things cancelling an order to get it two weeks sooner doesn’t seem like the best thing to do.

No, I agree completely it's not really a fair comparison. Seeing what the R7 is going for ten to twenty years from now on the used market would be more accurate.

I have a couple of questions for Tom. First, do we know how many units you will receive on the first shipment (or maybe you have them already)? Second, how many are on the pre-order/prepaid list and do you have a shipping priority based on order time? I only ask because the following weekend is Easter and many of us will be driving out of state to visit family and would be a perfect time to break it in.

The V1 is $400 + V1Connect ($50) + SAVVY ($70) + Case (30) = $550 for the V1 to operate at the same 'level' as the R7
I understand why the V1 keeps coming up, since it’s still the premier detector with arrows. But even ignoring the 10% discount on new returned units, saddling the V1 with a bunch of unnecessary accessories isn’t really right. Why include a case, for example? Like most people, the cases for my Unidens end up just taking up space on a shelf in a closet. Unless you’re going to also tack on the price of hardwires and visor mounts and stuff to the R7’s tally, it doesn’t make sense. V1 + BTLE is all that’s required and delivers a higher “level” of operation than R7, though not the same range. Add $10 for V1Driver if you’re feeling cheeky. $415 after discount, or $460 without.

True but also have to factor in the cost of updates for the V1 that require you to send the detector into Valentine and pay for the upgrade that are done for free via firmware on the R7. This is one area I really hope Valentine improves. Not only does it cost more but you are without your detector while it is being sent in.

That's true. I'm due a $79 upgrade plus $20 shipping. That's brings me to $398 for the latest and greatest when I get around to sending it in. I'm still on 1.37 that my R1 shipped with so I'm not exactly quick to keep up:confused:.

Off-topic question. Would the V1 hardwire kit work with the R7? Curious because I have one laying around. Thanks in advance!

Monday is the 15th, just to help clarify

Looks like as suspected BestBuy jumped the gun though. Hope all is well with you on this and behind the scenes things stay organized after all this chaos settles.
As I said it in chat: back in 2004 I preordered Unreal Tournament 2004 from best buy (it was a special pre order metal case). I went to pick it up on Tuesday (the release date) and was told that they started selling early....on Sunday and someone sold my pre order and now they are out of stock. So yeah Best Buy is known to jump the gun, but alas nothing was done to them for jumping the gun, no punishment nothing....

Doing something to BB for this would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I have a uniden hardline unused kit that is all yours if you want it. Call it a random act of kindness. PM me your address if you want it.

That’s his bread and butter. Doubt mike V will ever include a user serviceable port.

You guys are so butthurt over BB receiving them and shipping them out early. You’ll have your precious soon. Is it really a big deal? For those of you without a detector I get it. But most of us it’s an extra to add to the collection. Even if this is your only one and waiting on it... just drive psl or do smart speeding for a few weeks. You’ll be fine. When I was flipping cars I would go months with no detector.

Just cracks me up everyone is pumped for 4/15, which is not when you will get your R7. So if your planning on taking the day off of work, make sure your marking down 4/17. Usually BRD is two day shipping (at least for me where I live).
If D day is 4/15 - can vendors ship on 4/11 for a 4/15 delivery? Can customers pickup on 4/15?

True, but you also have to factor in the cost of buying a whole new R8 or whatever the next model will be, as VR is the only one offering an upgrade program. This has been done to death. Some prefer buying new units, some prefer upgrading existing purchases, and all of it has been thoroughly hashed out before :)

Yes, the V1 hardwire is high quality, included with the V1, and works for others like the Unidens. You just won’t have the brick with the LED and mute button you have to mount somewhere. Sounds like @bababooey has a great offer for you, though. Can’t beat free!

I'll just drive to Jackson and get mine since its about an hour and a half from me. Tom said it can't be shipped but nothing about in person pick ups! I'm just happy that mine will be delivered before Good Friday. I'm leaving for Arizona and want to run it in my rental then.

I'm pumped for 4/15 because that's the launch date end of story. Since January that's the date a lot of us have been pining for lol. We finally have a hard number. It's cathartic in a way
Like accidentally receiving your death certificate in the mail and it has a future date and time on it. For example mine is dated for April 6th, 2019 11:32.42 fatal brain aneurysm.

The rougher part of this is that didn't this same thing happen with the R3 launch? BestBuy got them out first?
I don't think so.. From what I remember BDR got 1st dibs on them.. And it took a while for BB to get them them. Then for months, they would sell out and people would have to wait..

BTW, I found out about the R3 from a BMW forum. Word got around that there was this new Uniden that was beating the pants off of everything.. Eventually, I found this site.
