I don't get the excitement about "auto lockouts". I will only do manual lockouts to signals I know are false, I will not trust a detector to do it for me - there are areas that I see a patrol car in the same spot on a regular basis that a detector may consider falses after a few passes.

I will choose what gets locked out...
I also see officers at the same location too, and I am personally not a fan of auto lockouts either. I prefer the manual lockouts. My Max 360c that I bought last month was locking out real police K-band on the first encounter (5 separate times and 5 different locations ) 4 LEO’s were moving and 1 was stationary. Escort exchanged the unit, and I received the replacement Max 360c yesterday. I also received my new issue of Car and Driver Magazine yesterday with a full page ad for the R7 on the back cover. I wish it would have been a real R7....lol. I am sure when Uniden introduces the auto lockout firmware update later in the year, they will give people a choice to use or not use auto lockouts.

I totally agree. When I got the mail out of the mailbox yesterday, the first thing I saw was the R7 ad on the back cover of Car and Driver. My thoughts were: 1). That is a great ad. 2). I definitely need to buy an R7. The ad definitely makes me want to order one. I will likely be ordering one from your company within the next few months.

If I'm not mistaken, K band is not used in California so you can turn K band off and enjoy the silence. The R3 and ostensibly the R7 are Ka killers and will substantially out-range the Max360.
Just returned the Max 360 and R3 this weekend in anticipation of the R7. Thank you for the reassurance! :)

I'm in the same boat, but at the same time, I know there are people in places much more busy than where I am at. I have manually locked out i think 5 things and that's more than enough. some people have that many on a block.

GPS lockouts have never been a priority for me but I can understand why others would want that feature. I don’t get a whole-latta falses from stationary sources. It’s moving BSMs that drive me batty - Hondas

That is a nice magazine ad that basically encroaches into V1 and escort’s space. VR and Escort have just about “hogged” the auto magazine ads for many years. Bel did run some ads in the 90s.

It is a good looking ad, but I have a few problems with it.

- This statement below doesn’t make sense to me.

The R3 displays 4 signals simultaneously as well. Band and strength.
The R7 does adds arrows to all 4 displays, but that’s not how the ad is worded.

- This is a total miss.

There is no information I could find regarding the R7 on their site. Don’t publish an ad pointing to a website if it isn’t ready to go. Your sending potential new customers there looking for information and all they find is frustration. Not a great first impression. In my option Unidens website has always been a mess. Try finding Firmware and Manuals. It needs a rework.

Hopefully they get some R7 information on their website soon (mostly for new customers).

I don't have an issue with that. But they lobed off Ka Band seg 10, so it can't scan as high on Ka band as the R1/3.

I see the future.... Stalker comes out with a 35.7 Ka gun... What's Uniden going to do?

I see the future.... Stalker comes out with a 35.7 Ka gun... What's Uniden going to do?

I can see the future too:

Stalker employee: "Hey, this company Uniden has ONE new radar detector that can't scan past 35.700 GHz, we should develop a LEO radar gun in the 35.750GHz range to defeat it."

Parts supplier: "Okay, sounds great! That'll cost you $50,000 to design a new emitter for the newer frequency range, and we'll charge you a premium because we need to recover R&D and tooling costs, and by the way there's newer certification costs with that new frequency, and you'll have to manage extra inventory of parts compatible with that new frequency. Oh and don't forget bidding and marketing to current law enforcement departments that this new premium product is worth the premium price over current radar guns that are already in the field making $$$ right now. It'll take about two years to do all this, and new radar detector units will be out by then. So how soon can we bend you over, err. start this new product for you? "

Stalker CFO: "Ermmm, K,thx, bye."

I don't even use lockouts on the R3 and Quite Ride (yeah that's on purpose) does an amazing job at quieting the unit down compared to my R1.

The Escort auto-lockout patent expires June 14, 2019, which is 20 years from the Priority date (June 14, 1999).
Actually the term of the patent is 20 years calculated from the complete specification filing date. In this case this is the PCT filing date of 14 June 2000. So the expiry date should be 14 June 2020. The priority date is only relevant to establish the date the invention is first filed, in case there is another application published just after this date. Quite often the inventors add some new features and improvements which can result in the priority being lost for the purpose of novelty.

Also looks like this patent application never entered into Australia, and didn't even designate New Zealand.

Looks like it failed to get granted in the Europe. I attached their patent application examination report.

So basically, I suspect it is a pretty weak patent. Probably not worth the paper its to be printed upon.

Yes, he is. Based in New Zealand, I believe. Or he could have just slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Joking
