Today my commute was fine until a usual driver who normally goes 90 ish came up on me. I was limited by traffic and when it cleared I proceeded to accelerate gradually to his desired speed... mine was 85 on cruise control. He was impatient and tried to shoot my gap and pass in the right lane. I was already accelerating and didn’t let off. He made the gap very closely... I rode with about a car length of space and on the next semi pass he brake checked me down to 55. I got super pissed when he took off back to 90 ish I rode beside him and he flipped me the bird. I dropped the hammer to 125 ish. I hate road rage but this idiot is going to hurt someone if he brake checks the wrong person. I don’t want to call it in because that sacks my commute road for the next few weeks. Why do people have to be stupid.

I probably should have just let off... I usually use him as a rabbit...

What do you dive ?

Maybe you went a little far... on a side note people who brake check blow my mind. i would never intentionally cause an accident to my own vehicle.

Don't feel bad, I shot the gap on a LLH in the rain about +15 this AM. It wasn't my brightest moment. I'll have to pull the CAM footage shortly.

A crossover that isn’t made for 125. It’s an economy vehicle because I have a long commute... but yeah it goes faster than that even.

ok, i have a Acura RDX it will scoot but i wouldnt take it that far.

Since you do have a crossover fif you ever have the opportunity with the correct right lane driver you can be a rolling road block for him and dish out a little pay back in the future.

Not worth my time... I just don’t get the brake check... I’m not into road rage and don’t feed into it. I was going to get out of his way after the right lane cleared up... and even was in the process of speeding up to his usual speed.

Sounds like you might have unintentionally been a LLH. The fact that he passed you on the right = he was going faster than you were. Also doesn't help your case that you say he normally goes 90 and your cruise was set to 85, nor that you usually use him as a rabbit. Sounds to me like he has more right to the left lane than you do.

It would be nice if people drove the way we wanted them to but.................. Anyways, if a person tries to pass you (even on the right) and he feels you are speeding up to prevent it, (even if you are not) be ready to see their disposition on the matter.

Me? I'm usually the one moving through traffic, if I get one of those I give a turn signal, let him by and score him as a rabbit. A usual 90mph person you say? Well now! Rabbit by appointment?

If he was in the process of passing with intention of moving over then he is well within his right to pass at his constant speed. People who stay in the left lane and dont pass are the real issue

Depends entirely on how far the next car to pass is. I get quite frustrated with people who lolligag and take their sweet time completing a slow pass when I will be able to complete it 20 seconds faster than the person hogging the lane. Get the F outta the way so I can get back up to 100 please. "Well within his right to get over and quit being so selfish and entitled".

It doesnt matter how much faster you can do it. You can exercise some patience in that particular situation. I usually opt to wait if im the passing car and pick and choose my right lane passing then get back up to speed

i guess the only thing that kind of irrates me is if i'm going the speed limit on the interstate and i go to pass someone that isnt, it might take me a few seconds to get them passed, at 10mph faster than them, then someone in the fast lane is a 1/4 back sees me coming over, speeds up to 20 mph faster just to tail gate me and push me out of the way, once they get past me they slow down to the speed they were originally going before they saw me come over...

The only problem I have with that thought is he knew I was accelerating because a semi just moved in... after I passed that semi there was one not far up the road... in that gap is where he passed me. It was literally a convoy we were passing with the intention to speed up to his usual 90. Unfortunately, it takes the 2.0 flat four pot I have more time than his v6.

He shot the gap with maybe 100-150 ft of room between semi’s. He took more time out of his commute to brake check me.

We all make mistakes the best thing is did you learn? What will you do next time? What won't you do next time? I am a firm believer that driving is an active skill not passive. Be aware of your mood and focus and drive according. Many days I'm find myself drained but in a rush but that self awareness tells me to calm and drive slower because I'm not up to faster driving.

The day we stop learning is the day we fail at life.

I was speeding up after a semi completed a semi pass... most semi’s are limited to 65 here. So me passing at roughly 75 and gaining momentum he should be able to wait.

Clearly I didn’t learn much because I feel he should have waited and some people are on my side... so that tells me there is two lines of thinking.

I always let them pass as soon as i can, respect for speed. But also a good rabbit. Besides it could have been an emergency for him.

More times than not they don't have the stamina to keep those speeds up anyway.

He always does 90 ish. I’ve ridden behind him for miles. My intention was to let him when the right lane was clear for me to stay in and maintain my 85... though after he was up a ways then move my cruise to 90. I was manually controlling my cars speed while he passed me because cruise is never fast enough at accelerating anyways... I was going to hit 90 and pull in.

It’s not an emergency... it’s his commute... he’s there every morning...

I’ll let him pass next time even if there’s a semi in front of me... primarily so I avoid a brake check... that’s the only reason.

Fair point, but "not far up the road" is the problem, and as you say, his V6 accelerates faster.

You're sometimes a LLH aren't you? :kittyshifty: (and hey, none of us are perfect, me included)

But sure it matters. Why is the onus on me to exercise patience in that particular situation (assuming there's a reasonable amount of space to quickly pass)? Why can't the LLH clear the lane (in accordance with the law), and keep right unless (imminently) passing? Why can't they be considerate and exercise some lane discipline?

Far too often I see people "intending to pass" in a space of time and distance that (amply) allows plenty of time and space to move right, allow me (or several faster cars) to pass, then pull back in behind me/them...without needing to decelerate at all.

But noooooo....they're entitled and think, "you be patient young man, I'll be done passing in a minute". Well in that "minute" I'll be well down the road by the time they complete their tortoise-pass.

And more times than not, when I'm forced to pass on the right, the person will accelerate to shut the door just out of spite; which of course not only increases the danger in the encounter but provokes engagement. The same kind of moron will intentionally slow down during their selfish pass, simply out of spite, because a faster driver behind them makes their intention to pass clear. And the same kind of moron will get in line behind several other morons and lolligag along, with less intention and desire to pass than the faster drivers on the road behind them...which often becomes a long line of morons hogging the passing lane because "they intend....to eventually....pass". People in the US need to be educated, because there are so many morons driving around with their heads in their phones, or up their arses, or listening to classical music while they pass traffic at 3 mph differential and needing a mile to do it.

It's really very simple. Keep right unless passing. But for many reasons people don't want to let go of the left lane; Laziness, ignorance, being self-appointed LEOs, entitlement, and being inconsiderate. And yeah, there are many people who are fearful of losing their place in a line of traffic, and sure, in heavy traffic there's no passing going on for good reason. But many times, even in heavy traffic, there's usually always one or a few dickheads up ahead who are causing the heavy traffic by hogging the freakin' left lane.

Truth be told, LLHing accounts for more injury and death than speeding. Because LLHing accounts for more spiteful brake-checking, road raging, and elevated risk-taking than anything else on the roads.

/rant

And btw, OP, I'm definitely not saying you are one of those people because you're not; I think you unintentionally found yourself in a less than optimal situation.
