Is the escort 9500ix outdated or still a solid unit?

I was thinking of upgrading to the Max 2 or not? Costco has it for 299 right now, not sure if that is a good deal. It doesn't look like they updating the firmware on the 9500ix anymore.
I have a Orginal Max... that I'm thinking of selling if interested?

Is Escort Live free with Max 2? Does it integrate with Android Auto? Or am I better to use Waze for police alerts. I can't find the max 2 on escort's website, wonder if it goes by another model name since Costco is selling it.

If you buy a new Escort RD they'll include 1 year of Escort Live (and have been renewing them for free for like 4 years now). No AA integration, Waze definitely is more useful but you can run both at the same time.

I think Escort stopped selling the Max 2 direct but turned it into a Costco exclusive under the name Max 2 Platinum.

Great answers. Thank you all. A few more questions:

1-Does the Max 2 help eliminate BSM false alerts?
2-What is the difference between Max II & Max 2?
3-Since Escort is not selling them anymore, will/are they continuing firmware updates?

1) Yes, the BSM filtering on the Max line is pretty good.
2) I believe just the name. Originally it was called the Max II then it became the Max 2. It's possible they also replaced the original bluetooth chip with the LE (low energy) version like they did in the Max360 later on, but I'm not positive.
3) Maybe. Last year they backported the improved BSM filtering from the newer Max360 to the Max and Max 2 after years of no updates. OTOH their new laser jammer system does not support the Max/Max 2, so it's possible no further updates are coming.

Max ii refurbished by escort on eBay for 249 with a six month warranty. I bought one for 224 last month and it's like new down to the packaging. They are sold by escort official I think.

Thanks for the info but I can't beat new for $299 at Costco.

I bought a hardly used MAX ll recently off Craigslist. Did the update to ver. 1.9. Pretty quiet on BSM, and the auto lock outs are nice. The main reason for another Escort was they still work with my HARD wireless helmet warning system. H.A.R.D. is a red flashing LED alert, but not Blue tooth. And yes, the OLED display on the MAX ll isn't very good in the sun.

Now that I have been doing some research seems the Uniden R3 may be a better unit then the Max 2.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you were looking for a better 9500ix then I still think the Max 2 is your best bet. If you want ultimate range then the R3 is going to seriously kick the Max 2's butt for an extra $100.

Some things I personally didn't care for on the R3:

* The Max 2 and R3 will still alert to some common BSM systems that almost all RD's can't currently filter out, however the R3 will alert to these systems from a much greater distance than the Max 2, which I found annoying on the busy highway's here (to be fair you can adjust the R3's K-band sensitivity in Advanced mode and dial it down or use City mode, but then what was the point of buying an RD with massive range?)

* GPS lockouts are manual, Uniden has not licensed Escort's auto-learn GPS technology, and when the patent expires later this year the R3 doesn't have enough internal memory to support auto-lockouts anyway

and some nitpicking:

* No ambient light sensor, so you have to either manually adjust the brightness or program a time of day to go dim and go bright

* I never cared for the alert tones, even though they're adjustable

* I thought the display looked less polished than Escort's

* No app integration

If you can find a place with a 30-day return policy it might be worth while to give both a try and see which you prefer.

Good points, auto learn is a real nice feature as I don't want to mess with my RD much. I want a plug/play unit.

Re-reading Mike's advice, I much prefer plug & play and the auto learn feature. Now I am thinking the R3 may have better range but may be more chatty on the hwy with BSM. F*ck decisions, decisions.

Yes, always tough...lol. Don't forget the liklihood of ever seeing another fw update from Escort on the Max 2 is probably zero. Not that it necessarily needs another.

Yeah, it seems that escort gives up on updates fairly soon after release, whereas Uniden still provides updates for their R1 & R3. I may get this one for 350 but not sure if it is a refurb.

So I should have K band off completely? It goes off for it sometimes but not too often. I’m just wondering if this unit will detect newer devices police use? Is there anything commonly used that this won’t detect? Has the range increased significantly on newer detectors? View attachment 112237
Maybe you misunderstood my first reply. The 9500ix has zero filtering for new vehicle safety systems, the K band false alerts will drive you insane. There is no further support/updates from escort on this model. The ONLY way you could continue to use it is if you live in say California, they have no K band there so you could turn that band off. I would replace it.
