I read in another thread that testing on the R7 was to begin and I thought it was to have started last week. Does anyone have a production unit that they're testing with? I have placed my pre-order for the R7, but if testing proves that there's a significant loss in range, I won't buy one until the range is up to par with the R3.

I remember reading that as well, im sure testing will begin very soon if it hasn't already though.

I’m not sure what you are looking for or what you expect. Do you honestly think that testers are going to be able to announce their findings openly before the unit goes on sale? I can just see Uniden letting testers release a statement before sales that the R7 is a bust and you shouldn’t buy it. Come on. After putting millions into R&D, i doubt that it will be anything other than a hit but really, would you expect some beta tester to pop up and give us the inside facts? Especially after the R7 had to be announced before they wanted to and maybe slow R3 sales as a result. We will all have to wait until it is out long enough for purchasers to start giving reviews.

I sense a bit of snarkiness in your post and I’m not sure why. As I said in my OP, someone (maybe it was the owner of Best Radar Detectors) mentioned that they would be getting an R7 and had plans to test it.

So I didn’t expect anything other than what was mentioned in a different thread. Furthermore, if Vortex is getting one, I’d imagine he’d be all over testing the holy living $(($ out of it.

Well, apparently the first batch sold went out today, so they're on sale, albeit in limited numbers right now.

If I have an R3 in the front, an R3 in the back, and an R1 facing up to my roof, can I consider that testing an R7???
Nope.. because you still can't see below 24.050. ....... But at least you've got ghetto arrows! LOL... that's one step closer.. Oh and you've spent more with that setup than just getting an R7.

It was a complete joke. I'm only running a single R3.

Yeah so beta R7's just dropped in the mail today and the beta testers should be getting them all tomorrow. From what we've been told, the detectors still aren't ready for production. There's still a few features that haven't been implemented yet that will be by launch. There's also a few things that need to be improved before launch as well. Nevertheless, this'll give us all a good taste of what to expect before they start shipping next month.

Now to go get my car into video mode... :)

I don't know why, but I have a funny feeling, because they haven't polished the firmware yet, it'll either have Sooper Dooper range or excellent BSM filtering (using the R3 as the benchmark), but not both during beta. And the reason I think this is because they'll want to showcase something special to make it really standout. Eventually, I think they'll get both, but by production, it'll be a compromise .... Range at or slightly better levels and slightly better BSM filtering than the R3..
