Hello! I decided to join this site after getting my third speeding ticket in less than 12 months. :omg: We have an hour long commute (one way) to our jobs; my hubby drives us into the city, I drive us out in the afternoon. I've always driven with a slightly heavy foot, but now that we moved out to the country and have the longer commute, my foot has gotten heavier, which has resulted in me getting repeatedly pulled over and cited for speeding. :readtherules:The State Troopers in Ohio are notorious for never letting anyone off the hook for a speeding violation. While I am trying to slow it down, old habits are hard to break and that isn't going very well. Currently I just do about 5-7 mph over the limit until I can follow someone else who is going faster and willing to be in the front. We do have radar/laser detectors in our vehicles but they are worthless when it comes to lasers. So, I am here on this forum to educate myself on how I can (hopefully) avoid detection via laser in the future. Maybe ya'll can encourage me to break my habit of speeding!

Welcome! Typical recommendations are ALP or TMG. Which RD do you use?

Welcome! yes Ohio is know to be on the enforcement heavy side, but some good CM's can really help.

What do you currently use for radar detectors? All Rd's are not equal so having a good unit will help.

Next, do you run Waze? if not you should, it's free and can really help with reducing the number of station traps that come as a surprise to you.

and you are correct, RD's against laser are generally useless. you need specific protection from laser, best options are ALP, or TMG, escort does have a viable option as well, but I'd lean towards ALP (antilaser Priority) It will delay the officers lidar gun from reading your speed until you have time to slow down, once slowed down you disable and the officer will get your reduced speed and you will roll right on by. Ohio does use some dragoneye lidar which is a tough one to beat so you will need a solid setup, but based on the amount of tickets you have gotten i'm thinking it will pay for itself very quickly! we can help with all the above. Jump in and do some reading, ask questions along the way!

And welcome.
Thank you! We both have Escort Passports, mine is the 8500 X50, so its time for an upgrade, esp. since it goes off every time I pass a vehicle with extra sensors on it, lol! My husband's is about 3 years old.

I used to date a girl outside of Mansfield... more Lexington. About a mile from the mid Ohio race track.

There are so many newer and awesome RD's to choose from. Best advice is to read the link provided above and make the best selection that fits you.

I ran the Escort RedLine and last year switched to the Uniden R3. By far the best range, but there are others that may have more features and functions you may be looking for. I am also aware they run X Band in Ohio, something to be cognoscenti about. There is a wealth of information on here, so read and learn as much as you can and then make your choice.

Welcome! Sorry to hear about the tickets. Glad you're here to be proactive about them tho.

As others have said, for laser ALP and TMG are options. The ALP is tried and tested whereas the TMG is still new. The Escort ZR5/ZW5 is another contender but it has its own flaws that makes a lot of enthusiasts stay away from it. It would all boil down on what lidar guns you see in your area dn what your budget is.

Posting that here would be like going into the Cigar Lovers thread and asking us to convince you to stop smoking.......
