I had a tint ticket/fix it when I was younger (17) and they checked it on the spot. It was 5% so I knew the results. I had to remove it and show up and prove it was fixed. That was many moons ago though.
Same thing happened to my son when he was in high school. He had to get in compliance. Thentake the vehicle to the Police Station to verify it was now in compliance, and get a form signed. Then had to take the form to the Courthouse and the charges were dropped.

Too many theiving bastards around me to not have a decent tint on the car. I would pay it and move along but i was pulled over (state trooper) specifically for tint and they used the meter. 2007 and sold the car in 2012 not one time in the 5 years of driving was i ever pulled over again for it.

in your case i dont think they can legally eye the proper tint %

What the actual fuck? If a ticket had to be delivered to you by mail for something not tested on scene, file discovery first and foremost and talk to the DA. The admission of any falsified evidence means the entire basis for the stop is now in question as the officer has shown the culpability of someone who would falsify a report.

I'd also file a complaint with the department as well after receiving discovery.

This is an old tread so ill add what i have learned. They don't need to take a measurement to issue a ticket for tinted windows (unless required). If tinted windows are illegal they are illegal, but this certainly would be an advantage fore the tint owner since it can be disputed with out a measurement.

In many cases tint is exactly what a thief is looking for, cover while he rummages through you car. Alarm with remote notification (Fob/Phone) is the best answer.

Do you have tint on your WS? Sounds like you do from the verbiage of the ticket.

Not in my experience
Most thieves in the Atlanta area wont break in close the door and rummage around looking for things.
Most: "They see they take" They get in through smash and grab. They will be gone by the time you get the text (public area)
if they walk up to your car at night they will rummage through it.

Suction cup mounts on windshields are illegal in many states. And if you've got something mounted on the windshield and see you're going to be pulled over, I strongly advise taking it off if you think you can do it unseen. Even if suction cups are legal in your state, radar detectors get cops stirred up. For windshield mount legality, check this chart.

Unless all forms of tint are prohibited, without a test, the state's evidence is pretty weak. If you can get it tested to be within legal limits, you'll win that one.

Oh wait, who am I fooling. Traffic court is a kangaroo court.
