What's new in this release?

  • Separate portrait and landscape positioning options for overlay (thanks @BlueV1 for the suggestion)
  • Fixed bug when disconnected while running in the background (thanks @novarider for the report)

When did you add the screen flash duration setting?

That was 1.4.2, but I forgot about it for release notes.

The damn screen flash just saved my @ss on the way home. I was talking to the wife over BT (alerts muted) and admittingly not paying attention like I should. Flashing phone screen grabbed my attention real damn quick. FWIW I'm running the V1 dark and audio all the way down with JBV1 handling alerts. Did I mention I like living on the edge?

For those that might also benefit from my requested feature of different overlay positions;
Here's the scenario that I have:

Since I started using Android Auto and having VVaze on that screen I now have my phone in landscape mode below the AA screen.
I usually have JBV1 running in the foreground on my phone so that I can see all the weather and indicators, etc. Once in a while, I'll need to switch to a different screen on the phone and typically the overlay is the most out of the way at top center during those times.

Other times I don't bother plugging in my phone for really short trips so I use it in portrait mode, I like to have the overlay at the top right 15% down so that it sits under the directions bar of VVaze.

This additional feature that Johnboy00 has added has made JBV1 a little smoother for me. :)

Auto close is working but now when I tap the alert overlay it doesn't open Jbv1 like it use to. I got a legit alert tonight that turned into a lockout. I tried to tap on the alert to whitelist it but it wouldn't open.

That's odd. It works on all my phones. Did you reboot it after the update? Find the lockout in the alert log and delete it. I need to add a create white list from the alert log, just like the create lockout.

Yep did a reboot. Testing in demo mode it will open but it waits 3-4 full seconds before opening. I tap the overlay and it just sits there for 3-4 seconds then opens Jbv1.

It definitely wasn't like that last week. Before, it would open as soon as I tapper the overlay.

There was a thread started about this I just saw. Seems it started with 1.4.0 or 1.4.1?
-- Double Post Merged: --
After more testing the delay to open gets longer the more alerts there are in the overlay. With just 1 alert it opens with a small delay. With 5-6 alerts there is a significant delay.

You mentioned in the other thread it could be something that controls screen brightness could effect it. Maybe the auto lighy/dark you added in 1.4.1 has something to do with it?

He was talking about a 3rd party screen brightness app in that case.

I've experienced the same behavior as you recently, but I've also had it work just like it used to two days ago.
I have one other app that can "draw over the screen" (and potentially hover over the main content like the overlay does) and that might be where the conflict is.

That app allows me to swipe from the edge and launch other apps easily. I have used it with JBV1 just fine for at least 6 months in the past. It's called EAS.

With JBV1's Android Auto changes, I've started to notice this issue. At the time I believed it had something to do with not letting AA close JBV1. But, I'm not saying that it's JBV1's problem. I still need to test and determine why clicking the overlay works sometimes and doesn't other times. :)

@BlueV1 I can't stop AA from killing JBV1. All I can do is restart it as it's being killed, which is what I do. This has nothing to do with the overlay itself.

@novarider The auto (light/dark) theme feature only affects overlay content. It doesn't affect overlay touch events in any way. I tried demo mode on all my Samsung phones, and my Pixel 2 XL, with auto theme enabled and disabled for the overlay, and in both portrait and landscape orientations. No significant delay (< 1 second) with 5 or 6 alerts in the overlay. I also tried with a connection to my V1 and two alerts, and there was no significant delay. I also tried in emulators with Android 5.1 and 8.1. No delays. The only times I ever see any significant delay (> 1 second) are when I background the app almost immediately after it starts and then tap the overlay fairly quickly. This has been the case since I added the overlay over a year ago. I'll test some more today in a nearby shopping center where I usually get 7 or 8 simultaneous alerts.

Hey john, when i get in and restart the car it shows the incorrect profile based on the programming. 2 main profiles Skip City and Skip Highway. It can be set on skip highway and when i turn off the car and turn it back on it reads "skip city" but the programming is that of the Highway profile.

That sounds to me like JBV1 is detecting the profile in the V1 and matching to a profile in JBV1.

What's the difference between the two profiles?

Not the main difference(s), I need to know specifically what all the differences are.

They are very similar. But I did create the city profile first and then saved as to the highway and modified settings that way. Maybe the profile has a similar digital imprint that is causing this

The only difference is the V1 mode, which is not used in identifying a profile at startup. It's assumed that you would use the mode button on V1 or on the alert screen (bogey counter long press) to change modes. It's like this so that a mode change using the button won't create a new unknown profile on next startup, in case you don't have a profile for each and every mode and you don't change the mode back before the app is shutdown. You could work around this by changing anything else in one of the profiles.

Testing today in demo mode the delay is sporadic. Sometimes it's fast and sometimes it's delayed. I have nothing else overlaying the screen. The only thing I can't test in demo mode is lockouts. Last night on my way home it was a lockout I tapped that wouldn't open.

I'll be releasing another update later that disables by default the new landscape-specific position options, and the sensor required to make that work, in case it's causing performance issues on some phones.
