  • Suffolk county police use Ka/laser
Suffolk County PD and Suffolk County Highway Patrol don't have any radar units. They are strictly laser. Town/Village Police in Suffolk County have K band and laser units.

NYSP in Suffolk County are Ka and Laser.

If you plan on travelling, or do travel, anywhere in Eastern Suffolk County it's very easy to go well above PSL and K is very rampant. Especially on the North and South forks.

@Solidjake now I am confused man. I was almost sure that either I read somewhere in here or else but thought that Nassau didn't use any radar period, just laser.

I wanted to know more about Jersey and PA cause I occasionally drive down to these places. Over here in NY I am almost turning K band completely off.

Definitely Radar in Nassau. Southern State Parkway I get a Ka hit at least once every week or two with a LEO not far ahead. Between exits 14 and 33ish, that's where suffolk starts I believe.

The good thing about the Southern State, there's so many drivers Waze is usually accurate 99% of time as well.

May be a stupid Question, but from what I understand, Highway Mode turns everything maximum. If I turn TSF on, does it turn off in Highway mode?

I haven't been on the LIE in a while in Nassau, last I heard they did use k from rear shots on the on-ramps. I'll do some digging
It was rear laser shots being reported in Nassau.

Thats NYSP hitting you with Ka on the parkways. County LEOs arent allowed to do speed enforcement on the parkways. While you MAY see a county LEO on a parkway very rarely it's not for enforcement, they're just passing through.

So, to clear things up a bit more. Parkways are Ka and Laser. LIE is laser by the county but NYSP are known to travel the LIE here and there spewing Ka. NYSP doesnt setup shop on the LIE until further east. Once you pass Wm Floyd Pkwy going east it's going to be laser and Ka. In that area you'll see Local, County, and NYSP.

If you are not using K band, there is no need for running TSF on, it should be off. I got one K band hit once and that was over 4 years ago. In NYC, you would be safe turning that off. Long Island on the highways you can keep K off. Local county police might still be using it but I am not to sure.

Not anymore. Ever since Cuomo and Bilasio got into a pissing contest, NYSP has been all over NYC highways. They have no limits anymore.

I was just referencing Long Island. The boroughs are a whole different ballgame. NYSP took over there and NYPD along with others are not happy about it. Those of you carrying PBA cards, don't flash NYSP a card from a borough agency and vice versa. You may not like the result. I'll leave it at that since this is not an elevated area.

Are we talking about Nassau County Highway Patrol or NY State Police? Only State Police can be on the parkways.

I live in Northern NJ & mainly deal with Ka band. I used advance mode & use Ka 100%, K 40% & X 30%. Where I live K band is only used by local Police & is never on the HWY.
