I’d also be interested in one in black ABS. I’m in the desert.

If there is a run of these being made I would like one to try out. I would be happy to cover whatever costs are associate with the materials, handling, shipment, and time to do that if someone is interested taking my money for that. I'd like to experiment with this and some Proclip parts I have. :)

Alright those that want these mounts, I can offer three different materials:
  • PLA (assortment of colors)
  • ABS (Black and maybe white)
  • Carbon Fiber infused PETG
PLA is easiest/cheapest. ABS will probably survive in the sun better. PETG will most likely be the strongest with the carbon fiber inside, but that being said is quite abrasive and may scratch the shit out of your scanner.

If you guys want one, PM me what material and regular mount or RAM mount. I'll try to get to them this week.
I'll charge shipping but very strongly suggest that you guys donate to @OBeerWANKenobi for taking the time to design these and make the different changes needed for different people....

Out of curiosity is there any reason to make them any other way than with the standardized AMPS hole spacing? Not sure if maybe there are impacts to the design strength or something that otherwise might make the arbitrary holes better.

PS Also, for ABS, any strong feelings about using acetone (heated or otherwise) for polishing?

I was able to get some black ABS in and print a couple of OB-Grip™ (LOL) mounts. One is for @Jaguar and the other, I don't know if @InsipidMonkey needs that one or if @SquirrelMaster is still going to send him one? One of them has a printing defect on the back of the mount pad. The other one came out great. As for the defect, it's just a rougher surface on that one face and it would never be seen after it was attached so still completely usable.

I'm new to this forum and joined specifically because I saw the 3D printed 436 mount, My son does 3D printing and I thought I might get him to print me one! how do i get the file needed to get this done?
thanks

Although I do offer the printed mount to "elevated" members here in the community for a small "donation", I do not give away the model itself unless I trust the individual I'm giving it to not to redistribute it or profit from it. I want this to be available and a good value to people that have contributed to the community and am prepared to donate the time I spent on this to them but I wouldn't give it away for free to everyone.

I am working on a solution though as this isn't the first time I've been asked for this and I've been asked for other models as well. @sdrawkcaB has suggested that I try Shapeways as a way to distribute this in actual printed form. It will cost a decent amount of money to purchase it through them (with very little margin for me) but it will give the general public access to this design while still protecting my work. I'm also trying to find a way to just sell the .STL but make it so it can only be sent directly to a printer and not saved on a computer. I'm not sure if there is an existing option out there anywhere for that though.

Elevated members of this community in good-standing can still contact me and I should be able to arrange something different for them through @SquirrelMaster (if he's still game) or myself.

Here's the link to get a ready made OB-Grip shipped to your door through ShapeWays, it's $57!:

I'm still working on getting a much less expensive "streamable" source for those who'd like to print it themselves. Once I do, I'll post that as well.

If anyone has another contract printer like "ShapeWays" that's a lot cheaper I'll consider uploading there as well, depending on the terms and conditions.
