I've now had two Lidar strikes that weren't pinned on Waze. Kind of wondering what's going on? Typically Waze has been if nothing else false prone and now I've had two missed reports. There was that high speed Lidar strike from HPD which was kind of understandable as it's a less traveled road and he was hard to spot but this latest one was out in the middle of the freeway. I suppose he might have just set up but it was surprising anyways.

Could be a variety of factors but you nailed the two big ones. He just setup or the people driving around just missed it/are stupid/and failed to report the trap.

I quit using Waze. Majority of the time it’s a report of a Leo moving with traffic. I use it more for car wrecks.

I wish Waze had that option to put a Leo moving with traffic. Sometimes here they go exit to exit. They swing around and go the other way back and forth. Would like to be able to pin that kind of stuff on Waze. Google maps is getting more and more like Waze. I bet at some point Google eliminates Waze. I hope not.

thanks

What location?
Too bad you quit using it. More people using it makes it better...
in the ny/nj/ct area, driving with vvaze is definitely updated and usefull.
Just started it up by my desk and reported 59K users around you...

In my experience, pins with no confirmations (0 thumbs up) are nearly always "false" by the time I get there, and pins with confirmations are nearly always "true." This is why I differentiate them with color in my app (red = 1+ thumbs).

VVaze certainly isn't perfect.
Generally the more people that use it (or a suitable replacement if it comes along) the better for us all.
@erickonphoenix, do you think it's possible that the LEOs are unmarking themselves?
If I suspect that behavior and I have the opportunity, I mark them a little before and after so that they have to move or team up with another LEO to unmark.

Regardless of the flaws in VVaze, one thing it has done is greatly reduced the ability of LEOs to sit in the ideal spot for extended periods of time. They have to move, get set up again, etc. and that is precious time that they aren't in a perfect spot!

I'm not sure, the only thing I've seen them do is park off the highway and wait for the pins to clear. From my understanding downvoting LEOs that are being upvoted will only decrease your reputation until your downvotes are ignored.

LEOs are also figuring out that they need to move a lot more quickly with the information the drivers have available.

Around here if they are doing enforcement, they may not stay at the same location more than 5-10 minutes. I often see 3-4 spots of marked LEOs in a 5 mile stretch, but most of the time they are only at one of the locations, not there at all - or with a customer. Some of them I notice don't really stop at all and just do loops in their area with moving I/O.

....do you think it's possible that the LEOs are unmarking themselves?....
This is kind of possible, but there is a team on centercode to combat this. I believe it's currently not possible to unpin something when not moving. (It's a bug if you can) However, I'm not sure if it's in the production versions, but try making a report you're not moving. If you still can you won't for long. you'll be able to mark accident and congestion. If you break down on the side of the road you can't even mark yourself.

With the newer user algorithm, if the officer un-marks self somehow and then is re-added, he is flagged. And baby users can't unmark something. Potentially they could have an IT staff with Gmail accounts creating accounts with enough ranking to unmarked but they will get burned in one day.

On centercode I read a new tactic being used by LEO is marking spots every mile for 10 miles and then sets up. So potentially you will start ignoring that 11th report which would be the valid one. And centercode doesn't want moving cops Marked so if somebody keeps marking officer they're following they're going to end up on VVaze probation.

Again I stay with the beta version so I don't know which features are currently in the play store. I've learned to not comment on this app much, but there is a team making sure work around ARE patched.

If anyone knows a workaround to unpin a credible marking, please PM me.

How do you do that?
JB is calculating the likes on the CSA. HIS APP also pings the server more often, you will get faster reports ON newly reported LEOS using his app.

You missed my post? This is how I got popped! Dude these lazy ass drivers want to use waze but not contribute to reporting incidents. If you don't report, you shouldn't be allowed to use it. It's the black and blue 20/20 cops are using all over. My alp has a ton in stats.

Allen, thanks for the insight on how some of this works. There are a lot of misconceptions out there. Glad they are working on ways to prevent gaming the system by LEO’s and others. You mentioned you don’t always like to comment on these things.
If you have any reservations, consider keeping in elevated forums. We appreciate the knowledge shared and will keep it zipped.

Did you download something to have the ability to change that? And is that something that iOS users can do as well?

EDIT: nvm, just found out it is something you can do with the JBV1 app. And it's only for Android too sadly
Does anyone know of any apps like JBV1 for iOS?
