U.S. Governors Buying into Vision Zero

Here's an unsettling news story about a movement to reduce highway speed limits in the U.S. The public will be fed deliberately misleading statistics in support of Vision Zero, which is a "safety" movement which will use ever lower speed limits as it's primary method of eliminating traffic fatalities.
The real winners will be state and local governments along with the insurance industry, which will increase their incomes dramatically.

Everything they do, traffic tickets for "safety" roadsize check stops, automated vehicles....Is them taking the steps to get to the point where you cannot travel freely and have to ask permission to do so.

The other day after finding out that Montana no longer has a no limit daylight speed limit I did some research. It seems that driving fatalities almost doubled after going to a slower 80MPH PSL. This is what happens when traffic laws are created to create a revenue stream plus allow people that should never be allowed to drive end up being allowed to get a DL!

In 1995 after congress got rid of the 55 Mph law, they went to "reasonable and prudent". That ended in 98 because it was unconstitutionally vague, and one person fought their ticket to the state supreme court :/.

I drove right past a MHP Trooper at over 130MPH in a Lotus Tubro Esprit in 1984 and he didn’t bat an eye. In 1997 I remember passing a Corvette at over 140MPH on I-90 because he slowed when he saw MHP, the LEO didn’t come out after either of us. I remember those years because of the cars I was driving at the time. When we did the frequency coordination allocation and cellular/satellite coverage maps for the northwest we used an antenna covered RV. Whether Anthony or I was driving the RV back to a decent size town between survey runs, we were always doing 90 to 100 and were never bothered. Guess we’ll have to call those the good old days.

Or has found a Cash Cow revenue stream in his residents driving habits. Red Light Cameras and Photo Radar doesn't make anybody drive any safer and many in the public don't even know they are there until they receive a ticket.

I'm pretty sure the rise in fatalities starting in 2015 was because of the fact that gas prices plummeted at the end of 2014 so people drove more miles. Like the article said, fatalities per mile are lower than they were in 2008.

Their next move : clever/inescapable speed traps ? like mandatory on board speed spy ? already in place but not actively used ,
except in court case.

With autonomous cars we won't have the ability to actually drive. The future is looking somewhat bleak, assuming these technologies eventually come about.
