This thread is a notice/reminder/announcement/whatever referencing our upcoming upgrade from XenForo 1.x to 2.x. Please see this thread for more details: www.rdforum.org: January 11, 2019: Preliminary Preparation For XenForo 2 Upgrade, Details & Your Input Needed!

Downtime will be roughly 2 hours starting on January 13, 2019 @ 3AM CST!

This thread will remain locked until the upgrade process is complete (and thus should not be/attempted to be posted to) - use the above linked thread for related discussion. Thanks!

--- DOUBLEPOST MERGED ---

I think we're probably going to bump this one night; scheduled maintenance with my ISP has me a little worried. I've never been through a maintenance window on AT&T fiber yet but during maintenance on Comcast there were all kinds of intermittent connectivity issues.

Okay everyone, as mentioned in the previous thread:

Alright!

Now that the holidays are (finally) over, some of the ongoing RDFNET projects are finally coming to completion, RDFGSv1 is back up, the raffle is done/in the final stages of prizes being sent out, our server has been moved to the OVH US datacenter, and I've completed a couple dry-runs of the XenForo 1.x to 2.x upgrade here at home, we can finally start talking about the upcoming XenForo 2.x forum platform upgrade happening on our production environment (and whew, those were just some of the larger tasks we've been dealing with over the past month or so, don't get me started on many of the other things happening behind the scenes)...!

So let me give you a basic rundown on what we're thinking regarding the XenForo 2.x upgrade...:

1.) Upgrade of Xenforo 1.x to 2.x will happen. This is not a platform change like vBulletin -> XenForo was, so this will not require much downtime at all.

2.) For about 5-7 days, the XenForo 2.x install will remain in a near-vanilla state (vanilla theme, with a couple modifications to the logo/etc to RDF the place up a bit, aesthetically) to ensure that nothing wonky/unexpected/whatever happens. I've already done testing locally so I'm not expecting any issues but making sure that normal use doesn't affect the upgrade is not something I can reasonably test for, and it would suck to install all the addons/everything to find out there was an issue. Again, this is just a precation, I really am not expecting any issues. This will also give you guys a bit of time to gradually work your way through the new functions/features/settings that come with XenForo 2, before we literally blow your mind with another 100+ premium/custom addons, lol...

3.) After those 5-7 days are up and show no nonsense, we will begin gradually rolling out the red carpet from addon hell (see below for a preview of what's to come). Additionally, during the 5-7 vanilla period, I'll be working on our new theme. So expect after the vanilla period is over, various changes to the looks of the forum still start to happen. And yes, I will be creating a light theme, and a dark theme, hand-in-hand. So once the theme is done, you'll be able to choose from a light or a dark RDF theme :). Additionally, XF2 has a ton of customization potential, even down to the user (you) level - so you will be able to tweak things ever further if you so choose.

4.) This step of the process shouldn't really exist because #4 above covers the end :shifty: .
^ As of this post, we are on item number #2 in the above list! Please read this:

Okay! This is actually rather exciting. Everything went through perfectly, and we are now running XenForo 2!

I know what you all are thinking right now, HOLY CRAP WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO THE FORUM! Don't worry, our theme and everything will be back very soon! I've already started working on it - I just had to make sure the upgrade process went through okay regarding all of the XF1->XF2 upgrades, and it did!

There are a lot of good things coming, very soon! Feel free to point out any issues you may see (i.e. any serious errors) or whatever, here in this thread.

Some things I've noticed already:

1.) Certain bbcodes such as double post merges are not showing up properly - understood, I will be addressing this soon.
2.) Social groups are temporarily disabled. This is because they are technically an addon and will need upgrading. I will be addressing this soon.
3.) Everything is all plain and blah - DUH! See the above details for this. But simply, anything THEME/STYLE/APPEARANCE RELATED, note that the default XenForo theme is activated right now. So please don't worry about reporting theme/style-related issues. XenForo 1 themes are not compatible with XenForo 2 so obviously that's why this place looks the way it does.

One thing, if you are seeing substantial issues or something like that, try clearing your browser cache. Nobody should be experiencing substantial issues but some browsers have been known to ignore server-issued cache settings, and that could potentially cause issues - potentially (but unlikely).

Anyway, thanks for bearing with us while we do this upgrade!

***** UPDATE ***** IMPORTANT *****: Okay, listen up! If you don't want to read anything else, at least read this! We have activated the base theme I will be developing the RDF custom theme off of. What this means is, everything you currently see, is going to be different, very soon. I have scoured the forum and most of you have been online long enough to report any REAL issues that may have arisen from the upgrade. So, no need to report ANY ISSUES. Also, no need to request any changes etc. Let me finish creating the RDF custom theme, over the course of this week, and when I give you guys a heads up THEN you can start reporting issues. In the mean time I will try to push a few quick changes here to make using the temporary themes more manageable/usable. So, after reading all that, if you have any questions/comments/suggestions/etc, let me know. Thanks!

The new theme looks horrible....
It's not a new theme. It's the default theme. Did you bother to read ANYTHING I wrote? Seriously. After all the crap I wrote specifically about the theme and crap you really had to post this after the hours of work I did making sure the upgrade went through, think that's constructive or even "mediocre" feedback?

I don't think you did, I think you purposely didn't read it and just wanted to complain, and now you're playing it off like a joke.

I just re-enabled Cloudflare, FYI.

Looking for a more "permanent temporary" theme that will hold us over for about a week while I finish up our primary RDF themes.

Can a new theme include a hidden vicious rabitt from Monthy Python? Can it coded in Python?

I'm sure we could work that in there.

Looks good so far. I READ that add ons and tweaks are still in the works. I was concerned that it would be too much.
It's still easy to navigate and familiar with a updated look. Good work !

Yep I'm developing the RDF theme on top of the UIX framework, so you guys will have the default UIX base themes to use until the RDF theme is finished (within the week).

Just expect A LOT of changes coming. The current appearance is not what the RDF theme is going to look like - it will be a mix of newer XF2 stuff, this UIX framework theme, and the old RDF theme/style.

@xydrine Thanks for the planning, communication, and time invested to update the platform!

When viewing from my iPad (tried Safari & Chrome), when I am on the home page, I can only scroll through the different forums/sections/discussions The rightmost pane that showes the Staff Online, Members Online, Latest Post appears to be stuck. I am not able to make it any further down the screen then the “latest post” header, whereas I can see all of the discussions on the left.

If I’m missing something, please let me know.

Edit: If i click on the blue down arrow next to the chat box, It jumps to the page footer, and I am then able to freely scroll on the right most pane.

Thanks, but... erm, I think I need to reclarify having people report issues.

There really aren't any technical issues, everything that exists is theme-related. And it's because we're on a base theme, while I'm creating/launching our new RDF custom themes.

Alright all done with the backup...

INFO: Total bytes written: 199731077120 (187GiB, 222MiB/s) // Finished Backup of VM 101 (00:14:34)

We should be good for downtime for the time being. I don't expect any more tasks that would require a backup/downtime/whatever.

Lol...

XenForo 1.x full system backup: INFO: Total bytes written: 206760540160 (193GiB, 216MiB/s)

XenForo 2.x full system backup: INFO: Total bytes written: 199731077120 (187GiB, 222MiB/s)

XF2 upgrade shaved 6GB off the overall server backup. Always find that kind of stuff interesting (it's due to optimization, not data loss or anything).

I've posted on a lot of forums over the years, and even been on staff for several, but I've never seen such great communication from the site admin wizard. Thanks a ton for everything you do behind the scenes to make this place so special - and double thanks for letting us know what's up!
