I'm going to hold off on the R7 for the time being. I'll continue to run my V1 with JBV1 and the STiR-O. JBV1 comes on automatically not long after my V1 powers up.

Besides I think this might be the year for the next Valentine RD. This last patent should get approved in the next month or so.

I disagree. I have had an R3 since very early, and using Windows 10, after installing the correct drivers once, it has worked flawless every time since and is very fast. Granted the update software is alittle primative, but it works!
I think you might agree that people like us that read directions and have the proper level of understanding generally shouldn't have issues. That's not true of everyone though and in the case of CM's I wonder how many would still rather have it done by a "pro" if they had the option.

Customer service is a big deal too. good luck having an engineer for uniden call you on a saturday morning to go over an isssue you had while on the interstate the previous weekend. A V1 engineer called me went over my settings and asked about the issue in 2014 when i first encountered BSM in a vehicle. They seem to really want to solve problems

Nothing wrong with your enthusiasm but this last patent is not going to be issued anytime before 2020 based on where it stands today. Could be 2020 or beyond before we see the next V1. Better to pace ourselves here because we are talking years not months.

Even if the majority of users don't find it worth the upgrade process, I hope to see an extended TMF2.5 or TMF3 from Valentine.

It's not that it absolutely needs it IMO. It's just that having something new from Valentine this year would shut down the people that believe that everything needs to be fixed or updated once or twice a year or else it's dead in the water. I blame Microsoft for that mentality...

Personally, I get my upgrade fix via JBV1 many times per year!

Im secretly hoping that they call me and say we would like you to be a beta tester for a new upgrade. Long shot im sure but wouldnt it be nice if they used us and we could send in logs of our alerts via JBV1. they might develop updates faster

Uniden is a Japanese company whose products are all made in Asia. I doubt they have any engineering staff in the USA.

Think that was confirmed when Kuni switched teams.

Bluetooth and smart devices are the latest tech. If you don't want to pair your detector that's up to you but it's your choice to stay in the dark ages or not.

The V1 doesn't need to be paired. You don't need to segment. The biggest range gains come from turning off Ka Guard which is programmable without pairing. Learn your detector's abilities.

A detector by itself will NEVER be able to perform as well as one paired by app. Every detector without an open API is a crippled detector that is not providing everything it could be.

Plug n Play is great...but it shouldn't mean limiting your choices or limiting your information. Enthusiasts want to have more information, not less.

Pairing your phone is simple just like any other bluetooth device and is automatic after the first connection. You might even call it Plug n Play.

I would say the V1 is crippled without the 3rd party app. I’m sure lots of unpaired escort, uniden and radenso owners can run circles around an impaired V1.

Have you tried running one? The range is shorter than a lot of the competition but it's still a pretty competent detector on its own. With a good app it becomes a really great detector.

I agree.

I really only use the third-party apps for the overlay and lockouts.

Same here except I push custom sweeps as well, oh and I use the PAWS and CSAs and... Oh nevermind, I rely heavily on JBV1!

If that's true, then every other detector is crippled without one.

It's funny how so many people act as though other RDs are their opponents. They're not.

I think the real testament to the V1 is the ability to do this. This is what ranks it in the higher tier of detectors. You can make it as good as any on the market or you can handcuff it and remain stagnate. It really is an engineers / enthusiast detector.

I'm interested in the R7 as a possible addition for the new car, but I'm willing to hold off and see how it performs. Let the bugs get worked out.
Besides I think this might be the year for the next Valentine RD.
From your lips to God's ears, my friend.
